But does “regular” mean permanent cast member? If it does, I’ll be thrilled. Thanks for the link.

Unfortunately, there’s really not such a thing as that. Look at Charlie Sheen and Two and Half Men. It seemed like he was irreplaceable because he was the lead on the most watched sitcom and he was a part of the title, but if they can replace him, they can replace anyone on any tv show.
Not saying that will happen or not, but everyone is expendable in Hollywood.

Why do I say that? Once’s writers are the same writers who wrote for Lost. Lost was good, but this show doesn’t have JJ Abrams. Lost almost didn’t make it, before it really got good. The show’s powers-that-were, were forced to make changes. It was almost cancelled after season 3 and not just because of long hiatuses. It was because the writers kept frustrating viewers with bad story lines, too much jumping around. Their writers seem to like two things: Flash-backs, and death. Both have been prominent with both Lost, and with Once Upon a Time. The running question has become: “Who will be the next character to die”?
I hear what you’re saying. I can’t imagine how someone without access to past episodes would possibly want to start watching this show from where it is now. It’s turned into a weird fairytale smorgasbord. It is similar to Lost in that the first season was very captivating, and then the show dragged on for a long time in the middle with a bunch of stuff that inevitably had nothing to do with how it ended (sorry Lost). But I have faith that Once will be given time to redeem itself. And having JJ Abrams may have helped Lost, but I don’t think it would have helped Once. Once and Alcatraz aired around the same time and look who is still on the air?
As for, “who will die?”, I’m so confused with all the plot lines right now, knocking off a couple of characters couldn’t hurt. If any less than 10 characters die before the end of season 2 it’s going to be very crowded in SB. Granny’s B&B is gonna be bursting!

It does.

2 1/2 is a different animal than OUAT but I understand what you’re saying. For the most part though, I think everyone on this cast gets along on and off set. Haven’t heard too many ego-related stories or cast in-fighting.

So while it may confirm he’ll be around for the latter half of the season since he was announced as a season-regular for 2nd half of the year, nothing is ever listed to us as “permanent” (sadly, because I love the character). It does or should mean however that we will be seeing a lot more of him this season and potentially beyond that (I really hope so!). Some of the actors that were regulars last season were demoted to recurring for this season and haven’t been seen nearly as much (think Archie or August).
Last season since the original order was for 13 episodes, our beloved Huntsman was listed as a regular and we all know how well that turned out. *cries* I’m really really hoping we get much more of Hook. He’s one villain that Walt Disney himself said he just couldn’t kill because he knew people would like the character too much so here’s hoping *crosses fingers*
On a story note I just feel like there’s sooo much more potential to dive into with this character (we haven’t even made it to Neverland yet!) and he seems to be an homage to PotC as well so here’s hoping to much more Hook in the future and that we don’t lose yet another great character. (He’s my favorite!)
Keeper of Hook's Trenchcoat.
