Mulan and Aurora may be iconic characters, but in the context of the show so far, they’re not exactly vital to advancing the overall plot. So if they get left behind in FTL and Snow and Emma go back to SB, it wouldn’t really be necessary for them to figure out a way to open a portal one more time to try and go back for them, especially if it’s dangerous to do. By the sound of it, communicating between SB and FTL won’t be an easy task if it’s gonna potentially put Charming’s life in danger to try. Would they really risk that AGAIN to try and communicate with a left behind Mulan and Aurora, who no one else in town apart from Snow and Emma even knows? Doubtful IMO.
The most effective way to keep Mulan and Aurora involved, (and I’m assuming K&H introduced those two characters in particular because they plan to keep them around and flesh them out more in the future), is to have them stick with Snow and Emma, whichever world they’re in. If they get left behind, they become irrelevant, and have been a complete waste.

I don’t think it makes sense for them to have been introduced for no real purpose. Assuming they intend to tell the actual Sleeping Beauty story at some point, which is a safe bet considering it’s one of the classics, they need to keep Aurora around so it can be told as part of her story, as it’s the story of her parents and would link in somehow to the sacrifice she spoke of, which led to her being Sleeping Beauty 2.0. They’ve already gone to the trouble of writing that line that foreshadowed her story, so they must have plans to tell it. And Mulan is one of the “Disney Princess” franchise, and is also an opportunity for them to introduce a new culture to the show, so I doubt they’d use her for a bit part and then just toss her aside. I believe they have more in store for both characters, so need to keep them tied to the main characters right now to keep them involved.

Charming will communicate with Snow while she’s in FTL, and it’ll be a perilous process of some description. Considering that fact, they’re hardly going to risk doing it again just to get in touch with Aurora and Mulan if they’re left behind.
November 3, 2012 at 4:03 pm #159251hjbauParticipantI am not actually sure if they will back story the two of them any time soon. Certainly not outside of what is going on with the main plot. It may be that all of these bad things will come back into the story. I am imagining some sort of portal between the two worlds being open and some nasty stuff getting into Storybrooke like the giant so maybe Mulan and Aurora will get back then. I don’t really know. This season has been all over the place, very disjointed.
Why would they want to communicate with Mulan and Aurora again? I do think that the wraith is going to come back into the story since Aurora is carrying around the medallion and i think they will save Phillip. Maybe that is where they are being lead. Back to the place they came through at the castle. They could then resolve both plot points at the same moment. Though i do think that Hooks ship comes into greater play so who knows.

Lol Although I think it’s very unlikely now, after seeing Into The Deep. Charming is under the Sleeping Curse, and the first thing Snow will want to do is wake him up, so any Snow coming through that doesn’t want to do that ASAP, or kisses him and it doesn’t work, would immediately be very suspicious.
What do you guys think?

After seeing Into the Deep, I think the real Snow White and Emma will return to SB very soon. As JJ wrote, any importer pretending to be Snow would be unable to awaken Charming, since it wouldn’t be true love’s kiss; it’s the ultimate litmus test for true identity. Since Charming’s plan to kiss Snow in the netherworld failed, the only alternative is for Snow to be physically present in SB to kiss her husband. The writers most certainly won’t keep Prince Charming in another comma for too long like in the first part of S1; he’s too important a character. The BTS pictures for 2×10 show Snow and Charming reunited, together with Henry and Emma. I hope this is a real family reunion and that Snow made it back to kiss Charming awake.

November 26, 2012 at 4:12 pm #162397PheeParticipantThe thing is though, and I posted this in another thread too, that photo of them walking down the street looks like it happens right after they come through a portal and are freshly reunited, which means all the people in the pic were likely at said portal, which means Charming was already awake before Snow got there if he’s out wandering around town in his jacket already and was there to meet her. If that does turn out to be the case, then imposters or not, Charming somehow wakes up before Snow and Emma arrive.

The only way for Charming to wake up is if he has true love’s kiss face to face, and I think the only alternative to Snow kissing him might just be Henry’s true love kiss for his grandfather. However, I still think Snow is going to be the key, since it’s a very nice symmetry to when Charming awakened Snow. The gathering of people could be after Snow returns and successfully kisses Prince Charming awake, which would explain the joy-filled reunion. The seven dwarves likely hear about Charming being under the sleeping curse and they come to witness Snow kiss Charming awake, just like they were present when Charming kissed Snow awake.
I also just read an article in which the actors talk about whether their characters want to go back to EF. Jared, Josh, and Jennifer all speak as if Snow and Emma have just returned to SB and then told Henry and Charming all about present-day EF.
HENRY: “I think in a way he’s like ‘Oh, that would be sort of cool,’ but in another way he’s sort of like ‘But everyone just got back here’…so I think he’s on-board in a way, but he’s not in another way. And also, he read the book, and he knows what the land is like in the book, but since the curse happened, as you’ve seen in the show, the land’s become very barren and deserted and evil,” Jared Gilmore said.
DAVID/PRINCE CHARMING: “I think David wants to get back to their kingdom—the kingdom that they fought for; the kingdom that they love; the kingdom that is their home. And Mary Margaret maybe might think a bit differently…‘Fairytale land is not as you remember it’, and the way he feels is then all the more reason to return there and make it right and make it better—make it better than it was,” Dallas said.
EMMA: “There is definitely a sense that Emma and Mary Margaret have experienced what I call post-apocalyptic fairytale land, and David has not. Even though it has been explained to him, and he’s heard the stories, it’s just different to hear about it than to be in it. For Emma and Mary Margaret, it’s very real, the state [fairytale land] is in. The dangers are very real, and the struggles are very real because they just survived it,” Jennifer Morrison said.

November 26, 2012 at 8:26 pm #162451RumplesGirlKeymasterMy problem with the impostor theory now is that if it’s true, it opens the door that it doesn’t need to be the actual true love to give the kiss. Just someone who LOOKS like the true love. So, if Cora is Snow and she wakes up Charming it completely cheapens the idea of true loves kiss, which they spent ALL of season one harping on how important true loves kiss is! I really don’t think the show will go there.

I do agree that it’d be perfect symmetry for them to have Snow’s kiss wake him, but I still think the pic in the street doesn’t jive with that happening. For me, that pic looks like it was the whole bunch of them gathered wherever the portal was, and this is their triumphant return to town. It doesn’t seem like they made a pit stop somewhere to wake Charming up on the way, and then all went back to walking down the main street. Maybe I’m reading the photo wrong though, time will tell. Henry’s dressed the same in that pic as he is in the promo when he’s at the well with Regina and Rumple, so the scene in the street must come directly after that happens.
I could see Henry becoming so worried about Charming not waking up that he’ll kiss him in the hope it’ll work like when Emma woke him. They’ve established that true love’s kiss can be between family, so I could buy it if they did that again, with Henry paying it forward.
The interview bits do make it sound as though everyone is back. Whenever I thought of the imposter theory, I figured it wouldn’t be that long between the imposters showing up and then the real Snow and Emma following though, so I’d imagined there’d be two portal arrivals only a couple of eps apart, and depending on when the interviews were done, that could still potentially fit.
