12) And what of Charming’s mother? Is she in danger because he broke off his engagement? Was this addressed in the show? Did he suddenly forget about her when falling in love with Snow?

I think it was more artistic license, but it is true in essence (at least initially). Just to go through each of the characters listed.
Regina knows because she remembers.
Henry doesn’t know, he just believes. He probably knows something really bizarre is going on in the town, but latches onto the fairytale book-based explanation due to its striking similarities. It just happened that the fairytale explanation was the correct one.
Gold, as has been mentioned in off-screen interviews, didn’t know until he heard Emma’s name in Emma’s presence.
August knew, but he never went to storybrooke (presumably) at any point earlier than we saw.
Jefferson knew and was technically in Storybrooke, but he was unable to leave his house (apparently) until sometime after Emma’s arrival. As a result, he had no ability to change anything.
Admittedly, they do make it rather ambiguous in the show, but maybe the producers or the suits later decided to throw viewers a bone by basically giving it away that Regina knew who she was. It still didn’t stop people from wanting to believe that she didn’t remember her past either.

a) How many are there? If Malificent stole one, is this the one from Sleeping Beauty that puts everyone to sleep, or is this the apple that the ginger bread house witch had?
Regina actually tells Hansel&Gretel that the apple was stolen from her. We also know that she traded the dark curse for the sleeping curse with Maleficent. I believe Regina put the sleeping curse on the apple. Thus, only one sleeping curse.

I too found the narration problemaic ; I was especially bothered by the “only one can stop her ” statement, since it was pretty clear from the pilot onward that the savior is the catalyst for the final battle, not the sole combatant. It diminshes all the other characters to say only Emma can defeat Regina. Let’s give credit where it’s due : we’ve seen Snow, Charming, Rumple, the fairies and the dwarves in battle and there’s not a wimp in the bunch. It has to be a team effort; we’ve been shown Regina’s no slouch in the warfare department.
I too had some doubts early on whether Regina carried her memories over from FTL. In the first few episodes she gave the impression of being a worried mom who feared for her son ‘s mental health. The ambiguity is part of why Once is so great.
Having just completed a two -year project in co- writing a Lost story, I have a lot of sympathy for tv writers. I had a lot of “if I had only thought of that in season 1!” moments.

Personally i think it was obvious that Regina always knew who she was. With Rumpel i did not want him to know so i was still holding out that he did not because that would have been more interesting in my opinion. I also would have rather they have shown more about Regina realizing that Emma was the savior instead of just having her say it in Ep 21 like the audience was supposed to have known she knew who Emma was all along. I think it would have been more interesting to know that Regina was actively working against Emma not just because of Henry, but also because she knew that Emma was the savior.
It is what it is though.
May 21, 2012 at 5:54 am #147448the_saviorParticipantI’m curious to know if Regina knew that Henry was “the savior’s son” before she adopted Henry.

It’s revealed in the 2nd episode “The Thing You Love Most”, in dialogue between Regina and Mr. Gold, that Regina did not know who Henry was or where he came from or who Emma was. This is before “Skin Deep” where Regina confirmed her suspicions that Mr.Gold remembered his true self but, in the 2nd episode as well, worried about the clock starting, Henry having the book, and Emma’s relation to Henry, Regina does flat out ask Mr. Gold if he wanted Emma to come to SB and if he knew she was Henry’s mother, and who Emma was. To the question about Emma herself, Mr. Gold says to Regina “I would say you think you know exactly who she is.”

July 26, 2012 at 2:12 pm #152502loreswanParticipantThanks to this post, i know the reason that she said that about the apple, it was so confusing when i watched again the episode… ._. I think she was keeping it from Charming, is the only reasonable anser, isn’t it?
