I just watched the next episode preview and I realised – I’m actually frightened of Rebecca Mader’s wicked witch.
At first people had a lot of complaints that she was a bit too corny, not convincing, etc. but I feel like after tonight, I start to realise the context of how she was acting – it’s not that she wasn’t convincing, it’s that she wasn’t all there! I feel like at any moment she could have snapped and done something crazy, and there’s something just so unsettling about her.
How does everyone else feel?

April 13, 2014 at 11:22 pm #261252Hook’s GirlParticipantShe is freaking scary now. She knows so much about everyone’s lives. How did she learn all that? What did use to spy on everyone. She’s like Pan. How did he know so much about everyone? There must be something the gang can use against her she doesn’t know about, like Regina’s trick hiding her heart.

They’re more “reflective”, in a distorted funhouse mirror kind of way, of the (as we like to think of ourselves) rational audience. Rational villains such as Pan and Rumpel make us ask ourselves “How far would you go?”. Fugue villains such as Zelena and Regina aren’t quite in touch with the world around them, and though that still makes them dangerous plot devices to the other characters within the story, they don’t give the audience any opportunities for introspection.
That being said, Zelena hamming it up like Skeletor is a lot of fun to watch.

Yeah, she’s wickedly scary.April 14, 2014 at 2:40 pm #261410nonnieParticipantShe is freaking scary now. She knows so much about everyone’s lives. How did she learn all that? .
.WWW in Wizard of OZ had a crystal ball she used to spy on DOROTHY and the gang… Maybe WWW has the crystal ball with her and is spying on every one in SB… MAGICAL security cameras.
.April 14, 2014 at 3:00 pm #261416Crystal PrincessParticipantThis is one of the advantages of having a year out of everyone’s lives they don’t have. And yeah, she probably has some sort of scrying.
I feel like she is going to become more sympathetic later on but for now I like her being genuinely scary.

April 14, 2014 at 9:38 pm #261503enchantedfanParticipant“Kiss Emma and remove her powers, or everyone she loves dies”
So Zelena curses Hook’s lips. I find that laughable…..shame on the writers for thinking this up. I don’t find Zelena scary, but I do find her unstable and unstable people make mistakes. Zelena is afraid of Emma’s powerful magic and as Hook said, for some reason, Zelena can’t kill Emma. Zelena’s threat is empty because if she can’t harm Emma, nothing will, not even a lip curse. Even Cora, who was just as powerful, couldn’t remove Emma’s heart!
What’s not laughable is Zelena’s threat to harm Emma’s loved ones. Hook has a dilemma. How will the writers solve this Lip Curse?
As far as Zelena knowing the comings and goings of everyone, she also probably used that crystal eye on the floor in Walsh the Wizard’s chamber, to spy on everyone.

April 14, 2014 at 11:00 pm #261520killianhookfanParticipantYes, I find her creepy/scary. In all the cast interviews they talked about what was scary about the WW is that you don’t know what it is exactly that she is after – every episode she is after someone else and it isn’t quite clear what she is doing. I would agree and I think that is what makes her scary. She seems to know a lot – at least she knows just what to threaten people with/how to freak them out. But she is also just plain creepy and weird and one fry short of a Happy Meal. Like it didn’t make sense to me why she freaked out so bad when she found out that she was “adopted” or had a sister, and her obsession with Rumple was bizarre in a very disturbing way (“I made you a meat pie!”).
Plus Rebecca does this overacting thing that totally works for the character. I mean that in a good way.
It is very strange to be this far into a character’s arc and still have no idea what it is that she is doing! LOL
April 14, 2014 at 11:57 pm #261533PheeParticipantShe’s a loose canon with a crapload of power who looks delighted at the thought of feeding Henry to a Flying Monkey. Yeah I’d say she’s pretty scary. (The WW always used to legit scare me when I watched Wizard of Oz as a kid.)
April 15, 2014 at 5:03 am #261557surayyaParticipantYeah, to begin with I was more creeped out by the ‘spinning head’ doll, than WW. I mean she was a bit like Professor Umbridge (totally outing myself as a potterfile here lol), you knew she was evil, but she was more laughable than scary…at first -WW is the same IMO…. turns out silly, ott WW is crazier than a box of soapy frogs left out in the heat on hot day!
I also agree with @rumplegoldfan- her overacting thing totally sells her off center- tornado tossed her into the crazy tree & as she fell, she hit every branch on the way down, character (I also mean that in a good way). I used to think Regina was truly twisted, but she’s got nothing on WW- Zelena sure got the lions share of that family’s sadistic gene pool :/ I mean- who looks that happy/excited over the prospect of feeding a kid to a monkey????? That’s a whole new level of ‘special’ crazy.
