I’ve been thinking for a long time about how Henry seems to really be the senter of everything. Almost everyone is either interested in him, or affected by him. Putting aside the obvious for a moment about how he affected Emma’s life and how he is the one to bring her to Storybrooke.

1). He is Regina’s one weakness. He is the one that is so far keeping her from wrecking havok on the town. I know she spoke of redemption, but it was only because of Henry that she came to that conclusion. If he were not around, she would be continuing to make everyone miserable. And without his help, Regina would have been killed–he is the one that convinced them to stop the townspeople from killing her. He may not trust her, but he will not let her get killed, either.

2). Rumpelstiltskin seems to have an interest in Henry. It could be how he knew Henry would be the one person to keep Emma in Storybrooke, but the way he speaks of and to Henry makes me think it is more then that–it is true fondness. It could be because they are related–if they are, Rumpelstiltskin does not seem to know that fact. 🙂

3). He is the one to identify that Ashley was Cinderella, and though Emma helped her, much of it was due to Henry’s influence. 🙂

4). He is the one to push Mary Margaret to read to David when the latter was in a coma. She might not have done so if Henry had not suggested it. In fact, much of the romance between Mary Margaret and David Nolan–them coming together–can be credited a bit to him. 😀

5). He helped Archie become the person he wanted to be–to remember his concience and to stand up to Regina.

6). He aided Graham into remembering that he is the Huntsman, where his heart was, and the connection he had to Emma and Mary Margaret.

7). He helped Emma with her investigation in finding Ava and Nicholas’ father.

8). He told Gepetto where Pinocchio was–didn’t really help much since the latter left.

9). And he gave Jefferson the courage to go back to his daughter.

I think Henry is a “vergence in the Force” to use a Star Wars term. A lot does center around him, but he’s key to the final battle. He’s the grandson of the royal family and heir to the throne if you will. And he’s instrumental in getting Emma to SB.

In fact to take my Star Wars idea a step further, there may be parallels between Henry and Luke Skywalker. Anakin Skywalker was the Chosen One and supposed to destroy the Sith. Instead he joined them, taking on the name Darth Vader and helped hunt the Jedi to near extinction until Luke (his son) helped redeem him as Anakin destroyed the Emperor.

While Emma wasn’t the cause of all the trouble like Darth Vader was, Henry helped set her on the path to return the happy endings to everyone.
