I think that the FTL realm has cultures similar to ours. Rumple is obviously Scottish-like. Is sons name is an old English-like name and Belle is supposed to be French as is her father and Sidney is Arabianish (like the words I’m making up?) Not to mention Gipetto is Italian as is His son. So I think that the realm gas cultural counterparts.
Yes, it certainly seems that that is the case, and I’m cool with them doing that. My only issue is that there was an Asian looking door in Jefferson’s hat, and if that wasn’t meant to represent a separate realm that Mulan came from, well, what else could it have possibly been there for, because really, what other stories would we get from an Asian inspired realm, other than Mulan? Methinks I need to just get over it though, coz they probably just got a bit carried away with adding all those doors in the hat. 😛

Mulan could be FROM that world and, going further back in her story, could have some how come to settle in FTL. If she, as a very young girl, came over to FTL and settled with a husband (which is implied in the movie, she marries that guy at the end), then she could be referring to the village they settled in as “my village” right?
The story of Mulan happened when she was probably very very young (i.e. 14-16?), but this Mulan we saw in last week’s episode I would guess is more like… 18-19? And that means current day Mulan is more like… 25 (the marks on Belle’s jail cell, I believe the podcast said, indicate that she had been in there for at least 4-5 years, but I could be wrong)? There is lots of time that can be clarified, and that door could still come into play. (Maybe Mulan was another baby promised to Rumpel from that world and that’s why she’s the only Asian looking person we’ve seen in FTL – because she is from that world with those symbols on the door?)
Rumpel seems to have his hand in everything.

My thought was actually that the Asian-inspired door could lead to an Asian realm where the characters and setting are more fantastical (like Wonderland or Oz). Stories from there could include the more fantastic tales, like the Blue Snake and the White Snake (two snake spirits who were sisters take on human form just for fun until one of them falls in love with a human and then all heck breaks loose) or the Monkey King (a mischievous monkey steals a magic peach from a royal court).
Mulan, I think, is from the “China-like” part of FTL (where the stories are more “realistic” in a way). I’m with WinLea, who said (much more succinctly than I could):

Just my thoughts 😛

I googled him after Skin Deep, expecting him to be a genuine Aussie, because his accent was so good, and usually fake Aussie accents are embarrassingly baaaaaad. So kudos to him for getting it right. 😆
