obisgirl –
I know – it almost pained me to write that, but I figure at least Belle and Rumple will live on forever in YouTube videos . . . sigh . . .

the only way he could be redeemed would be if his sacrifice was completely un-selfish and maybe then, his reward would be that he would be saved or resurrected, so he can live happily ever after with belle 😀

The producers have stated from the beginning and have continued to reiterate that the show is about HOPE. Plus being affiliated with Disney, I don’t think Disney will allow their princess franchise to get tarnished in any way. I do think somehow each princess will still get their Happily Ever After (or at least a semi-Happily Ever After).
OK, I confess I am totally a Rumbelle shipper. So, I’m probably just trying to reassure myself. But at least I can still have hope, which as MM says “can be a very powerful thing”.
February 25, 2012 at 4:03 pm #137674hjbauParticipantI actually think it is unlikely that all the main princesses will have their happy ending. I read that the makers of the show were going to kill Charming off in the first episode, but other members of the show were not happy about this so they didn’t do it. It is sort of like they were going to kill of Jack in the first episode of LOST, but that didn’t feel right so instead they had the smoke monster kill the pilot. I think that is very likely that some of the main princesses don’t get happily ever afters and if i were to pick one it would be Rumple and Belle.
February 26, 2012 at 12:39 am #137694SlurpeezParticipantA recent interview with the creators had this to say: “Is the relationship between Regina and Mr. Gold going to change? Naturally. ‘The thing that will be interesting is what the hell are they both up to,’ Kitsis said. ‘What’s Mr. Gold up to … why would somebody create a curse that they didn’t themself [sic] employ? That is a question we are going to answer this year.'”

February 26, 2012 at 1:30 am #137696hjbauParticipantThank you slurpeez. Honestly that is the only question i really want an answer to because Rumpel’s character isn’t making much sense to me. His character does not seem cohesive and honestly doesn’t make sense as of now. Though i hate his back story episodes, but i want to know why he had the curse and didn’t do it but gave it to the queen and told her how to do it so she would do the curse.
February 26, 2012 at 5:34 pm #137716rumplegoldfankristiParticipantI agree – his character is all over the place (which is exactly why he is my favorite character. And why Robert Carlyle should just be handed an Emmy – I’ve never seen one actor play so many different aspects of one charater on one show before. He amazes me!!).
There’s obviously a lot to him – both as Rumple and as Mr. Gold, and there has got to be some kind of serious connection between Rumple and EQ in FTL. I don’t think I buy that they were once married (at least I don’t WANT to buy that story – it greatly disturbs me for some reason) but I do think that for some reason there was some kind of bond between the two of them. Maybe Rumple felt like the EQ became evil in somewhat the same way that he did – not really wanting to be evil but because she was trying to protect someone she loved. So maybe he thought he was helping her out by giving her a terrible curse thinking that she was going to somehow use it for good (the way he originally thought he would use the Dark One’s power for good) only to realize too late that she was truly evil to the core. At that point it became a power struggle between the two and when he recognized that she was powerful enough on her own to eventually figure out how to finalize the curse he realized the only way to stop her was to find a way to break the curse.
Someone said before that Rumple never uses his power for evil – he just gives people what they want in exchange for more power or sometimes, in exchange for things that really don’t make sense (like babies). But Regina does use her power for evil – she kills people, or does things to cause them great pain and suffering (physical or emotional). I think that Rumple has a problem with this.
March 4, 2012 at 10:01 pm #138118darcyfarrowParticipantI never thought I’d say this, but…I too am a shipper. In all those years of Lost, I was neither a Skater nor a Jater or even a PBJer, but I just can’t help it, I’m now a Rumbelle shipper. sigh.
So I’m going to say that Belle’s right: Rumple isn’t evil but evil has taken hold of him. And I’m holding out for a Belle/Rumple happy-ever-after, and a fourth incarnation for Rumple (#1 being the “town coward, ” #2 the “monster,” and #3 Mr. Gold). I don’t know if that final incarnation should be a man of magic or not, but he should embody the best qualities of all his previous incarnations. And he must have his Belle. (And Robert Carlyle must have his Emmy or there is no justice in the world!)
March 4, 2012 at 11:17 pm #138121hjbauParticipantI think Rumpel is pretty evil. The way people talk about his character reminds me of how people talked about Guy in the BBC Robin Hood show and Guy ended up killing Marian. I just feel like as of right now that Rumpel is more likely to kill Belle even if it is by accident, sort of like Anakin being responsible for Padme dying in Star Wars, then for the two of them to live happily ever after.

Although series co-creators Eddie Kitsis and Adam Horowitz won’t quite come out and say he isn’t as bad a guy as we think, the former does allow that “he’s a complicated man, [and how you view him] depends where you line up with his interests. [It’s always a question of] whether you’re in the way of that agenda or not.” Adds Horowitz: “There’s more to come this season” — in particular, in Episode 19 — “about him and his son and what happened there that may, hopefully, shed a little more light.” And yes, there is some light in him. “A lot of these characters have grey areas,” Kitsis reminds. “There’s some humanity in him.”

My theory is that it'll be Rumple's son. Plus, I read that Belle is going to be in the season finale. Might we see Rumple/Mr. Gold risking all to save her from Regina?
