Think about it. I think we all assume Sidney was OUAT’s version of the blue genie from Aladdin….but what if he’s not? He doesn’t really seem to match him in humor and personality and his color scheme as a genie is far from blue. Instead it’s more reddish….which leads to my theory.

What if he’s not the genie….BUT HE IS ACTUALLY JAFAR!!! Remember Jafar was turned into a genie at the end AND his red and black colors match Sidney’s PLUS look at a picture of the two (Jafar as a human and Sid as a genie) they seem very identical. Does anyone else think it’s plausible? I mean they never said WHICH genie he was from Agrabah >>

I think on this show, anything is possible. Right now, it doesn’t seem like they have any plans to tackle Aladdin and the land of Agrabah but if they did decided to, this theory could be a work around the fact that Giancarlo Esposito currently has a full time gig over on NBC’s Revolutions (I think that’s what it’s called….) They may have originally meant for Sydney to be the Genie, but it was never made explicit during the course of the show that he was THAT genie.

Good thoughts! And welcome to the Forum.

HE could be the genie from the 40 THIEVES. Scheherazade use to tell 1000 stories to keep alive; I bet there were some extra genies in those stories.

Thanks for the welcome ^_^ and I do hope they explore it more. It opens up a lot of doors. Remember, before being a genie Jafar wished to be the most powerful sorcerer in the world. It’d be interesting in Storybrooke if Sidney (who is locked up by Regina) got all his powers back without becoming a genie and isn’t to happy about what Regina did to him *dun dun daaaa*

I’ve been a Sidney is Jafar believer for a while. It totally makes sense, and I would love to see it explored someday. If only they could get Esposito to return…I mean they could likely get him back just for an Aladdin episode. Plus, I don’t want him to be Aladdin’s genie, because that would mean Aladdin never freed him like he was supposed to…

With the way NBC ratings are going right now, who knows? They could get him back for a full arc.

Revolution (Esposito’s show) is actually one of the shows on NBC doing really well, so I don’t think it will be cancelled.

I would love to see this storyline develop further but we probably won’t with him being on Revolution as you guys said. 😥 I seriously need to have a Disney Marathon or sit down and reread the original stories because there so many parts I just do not remember. I remember the name Jafar and kinda what the guy looks like but that’s about it.

Jafar – bad guy in the Aladdin Disney movie. Ends up being tricked into wishing he had all the power of a genie, only to discover what being a genie is – a slave in a bottle. (“TREMENDOUS COSMIC POWER…. teeny weeny living space!”)

And if our theory is correct, he also became a slave in a mirror. 😆
