The funny thing is, I’m so used to ads on other sites that I barely noticed them 😛 it doesn’t bother me. If it keeps the forums alive and well, let the ads advertise on in my opinion 🙂

    Yes, Nonnie.

I believe Daniel got a sponsor and there are ads now on the site. The ads help pay for the upkeep

They’re well placed, don’t seem to get in the way. If it keeps our forum alive and kicking, then I’m good with it! 🙂

    Yes, Jenna. Pretty much

The cost to upkeep this site and the two podcasts associated with it is quite high.

I don’t care … I just noted a change in the forum and was trying to figure out what was going on.  I did try to boot one of them before I figured it out.

I do hope that they do not automatically turn on if they are video that would play havok with my bandwidth.

As for advertisements… I only buy what I need and the older I get the less I need..

You can also install an ad blocker (do a quick google search for one) so that you don’t have to see them.

    Yes.

Actually, the forum has always been monetized. I’m experimenting with some new things, so you may see stuff move around.

I’m sorry about the potentially offensive ads you may have seen yesterday. I had to block a lot more categories than I expected (like all clothing and gaming categories).

Ad blockers help deal with signature banners, too, especially the animated kind. Not an ideal solution, but any relief is welcome when someone’s favourite thing is not your own favourite thing. Signature banners are like baby photos that way.

Nitpick: the ads in the middle of threads feel invasive. I don’t care about them being elsewhere on the page, but having them smack bang in the middle of conversations disrupts the flow of the thread.
