The scene between Rumple and Belle tonight really made me wonder – is this the end? After Rumple left the shop, Belle looked like she was going to go after him (even letting go of Will’s hand) – but she didn’t. It seemed that she was finally letting him go.
I’d love to hear all your thoughts about it!

Rumple’s said goodbye to Belle before…in Skin Deep, in The Crocodile, in The Miller’s Daughter, in Lacey, in Straight on Till Morning, in Going Home…
This time isn’t the first and may not be the last farewell. They belong together, and even when one of them declares it has to end…they find a way to come back together.
He’s taken one of the first steps toward some kind of redemption: He confessed his wrongdoing to Belle and acknowledged that it was wrong. He fixed the immediate harm that he could by restoring her heart (which Regina took, but on his account).
He hasn’t fixed EVERYTHING and certainly isn’t behaving in a redeemed fashion yet–his intention to turn Emma dark and acceptance of Cruella’s death as necessary for that end are very, very far from “good,” whatever his ultimate goals may be.
But as far as Rumbelle goes? This was the first step toward their reunion. (Their inevitable 5 second reunion before SOMETHING goes wrong and they’re separated again.)

April 26, 2015 at 10:48 pm #302803SlurpeezParticipantSorry, but I think this goodbye speech by Rumple to Belle was the end. Rumple gave his blessing for Will to be with Belle. As Rumple said to Belle, “I’m returning your heart, but he [Will] is going to protect it.” While I think Belle will always have a place in her heart for Rumple, I think she knows deep down in her core that Will treats her far better than Rumple did. As sad as I am to say it, I think Anastasia will be dead, too. And I say this as a huge fan of ScarletQueen. I do not take this lightly. However, I will acknowledge that if Belle and Will had to start over with someone, they couldn’t have picked a better partner than they did. I think Will is a sweet and loyal catch (just watch Wonderland), and that Belle is a deserving, kindhearted character.

In fact, it makes me wonder whether Robert Carlyle is planning to hop off the OUAT wagon, as some here have speculated, and this is the writers’ way to tie up some lose ends (one of which is Rumbelle) while throwing the fans the metaphorical bone…
While I would love to root for those two, watching that ship capsize has been like watching the Titanic in slow motion, with long camera shots of hapless passengers slowly sinking into freezing dark waters… There’s a point where you just throw up your hands and go “Fine, writers. Have it your way.”
Too much for my poor nerves.
On the other hand, I do NOT get Will and Belle. Not that it’s an outlandish pairing, I just don’t get what they’re doing together.
April 26, 2015 at 11:03 pm #302807JosephineParticipantAs I’m a big believer that Rumple is dying* in the finale I would say it’s a final goodbye. He was essentially wishing them Godspeed on their future.
It does hearken back to when he first gave Belle up in “Skin Deep.” He freed her to go to the village after her speech about love and bravery. This was probably his second selfless act. Yes, he let her go other times but he, as well as the audience, always knew it wasn’t forever. This had a forever feel to it.
I am in a position where I’m a ScarletQueen and a Rumbelle shipper. I came to love Will and his struggles on Wonderland. He gave the most wonderful speech about love to Ana and it hurts that we have no idea what happened to her. But I can see if Ana and Rumple were both dead how ScarletBeauty could be a good thing. They’re both sweet people who have had true loves plagued by darkness. But like most other things, they’ve mess up this ship business royally and I just don’t know what to feel.
*I think Rumple is dying but Bobby may stay on for the show for flashbacks, which would cut back his screentime.

April 26, 2015 at 11:14 pm #302813RumplesGirlKeymasterAt the very least I think it’s the end of ScarlettBeauty. When she let go of his hand, I knew that the Will/Belle silliness was just to tread water and get to whatever they are going to do in the finale/S5.
I am a believer that Rumple is going to die and that no amount of redemption should ever make Belle go back to him after what he’s done. But I’d say Scarlett Beauty is done.
Now if only we could figure out what Will’s purpose is.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 26, 2015 at 11:15 pm #302815KebParticipantSo when he believed he would have to die to save Henry in Neverland, he didn’t believe that was forever? When he ACTUALLY DID DIE to save everyone from Pan, he didn’t believe that was forever?
Sorry, no. He always believes it’s forever. We, the audience, don’t because partly narrativium and partly spoilers and partly faith that true love won’t be destroyed. (Or at least hope that it won’t…since they HAVE destroyed it quite a few times now.)
I do think that spoilers suggest things may get very complicated. But I don’t think this is goodbye forever…and EVEN IF Rumple dies…there will be one more farewell first.

April 26, 2015 at 11:28 pm #302819JosephineParticipantI just can’t trust in our Beauty and the Beast ending anymore. Gone are the days of, “Oh, they’re Beauty and the Beast. Disney won’t let them break them up.” I just don’t trust the writers to do justice to it. “Skin Deep” was essentially a masterpiece. The reality is that after that episode Rumbelle characterization has been subpar in comparison. We get scraps and breadcrumbs. They tease and bait fans to keep them interested. But it’s at the point that Fanon is so much better at it than the show will give us.
I do expect we’ll have another Rumbelle encounter, but do I see them having a happily ever after with kids and a dog in the pink Victorian…I don’t.

April 26, 2015 at 11:32 pm #302821SapphireParticipantI’m leaning towards it being the ending, or the ending of it for now. As much as I like Rumbelle, I am so happy that Belle did NOT go after him. I just really, really like that she recognized she deserves so much better. Her face expressed the emotional pain & heartbreak at the ruin of her marriage to the man (that I believe) she loves more than any other. Even though she is now with Will, a love for someone like that doesn’t disappear overnight. I like that the acting / writing acknowledged that it wouldn’t be easy for Belle. Belle gave herself wholeheartedly to a man who, although he loved her, seriously manipulated their relationship and her. Rumple did so wrong by his wife. For a character that is truly underutilized by the writers, I’m glad that they had her stand up for her well-being at this point in time. Do I think it’s possible that A&E will bring them back together? Certainly. As of right now though, I am leaning towards the ending of Rumbelle.
As far as Belle + Will… I like them as a pairing in theory. I think the characters suit each other, but the timing is off. Because we weren’t given really any backstory about how they got together, (and oh, Idk, ANASTASIA) I perceive it as rushed and awkward. To me, the relationship comes across as a rebound for Belle. All of this makes it hard for me to take them seriously as a couple, which stinks because I think they go well together.

I agree. I think A&E didn’t quite know what to do with Rumbelle (Skin Deep worked almost too well, and I suspect the show writers didn’t expect its success), and so kept shelving it or giving it perfunctory dialogue and screen time, perhaps with the thought “we’ll get back to it.” In the end, I think the show “aged” at a different pace than the ship did, and so by now A&E are long since disinvested from this particular pairing, and so are awkwardly axing it, sort of as an afterthought.
Then, of course, there’s the problem of methodical character assassination, but I won’t get into that here…
