From what I’ve read, A&E said that we should have hope for Rumbelle. Maybe, he won’t die, and it won’t be over. I’m hoping they do a Beauty and the Beast sort of thing where Rumple almost dies before Belle breaks the curse.

As RG said, I believe this episode signalled the beginning of the end of ScarlettBeauty. If the writers wanted ScarlettBeauty to last, they would’ve taken the time to flesh it out. It’s merely an obstacle for RumBelle.

Adam said the same thing about Neal and Emma, but that was before Neal died. And Neal ‘died’ in S2 only to be brought back in S3a just to be killed off in S3b in the worst, most rushed manner. So, let that be a caution about these writers. Buzz words like “hope” and “redemption” are almost devoid of any real meaning. What happened to Swanfire could easily happen to Rumbelle — and may have already.
"That’s how you know you’ve really got a home. When you leave it, there’s this feeling that you can’t shake. You just miss it." Neal Cassidy

His heart going completely black would mean he’d be unable to feel love which he likens to a kind of death rather than it being actual death.

I really hope not. Besides, Swanfire was never really together when they reunited. Yeah, they loved each other, and were good friends, but Emma was kind of iffy about their relationship, bouncing back between Neal and Hook. Plus, Swanfire was never an official couple, Rumbelle is.

True. Maybe if he does go all dark, Belle can bring him back.
The only thing that bothers me are those promo pics of Emma holding the dagger in the air in 4×21 and 4×22. I might be wrong, but I’m pretty sure Rumple’s name was still The inscription on it.

SwanFire were an official couple in the past, how else would Henry have been born?

I think that’s right, but then what’s the relationship between the heart’s carbonization and Rumple’s “non-physical” heart attack in Heart of Gold? Is it that, as in a magical context he is losing his capacity to love, this process manifests as some kind of coronary heart disease in the Land without magic? If viewed by a regular doctor in a NYC hospital, would his heart simply look diseased in the traditional sense, whereas the cause is in fact spiritual, which then becomes apparent in a magical realm?
If so, then should Rumple leave SB once the process is complete, then he would presumably either collapse dead, or wink out of existence like Chernobog, because ironically he will have completely transformed into a (purely) magical creature.
Did he drink the Elixir (did Zelena give it to him), or did she hold on to it as insurance (I assume the latter)? Isn’t there essentially two solutions to his heart problems, i.e. the serum, or elixir or the… what, “darkness transplant”?
I assume that any Rumbelle will eventually have to relate back to these heart issues.

I know that they were a couple in love in the past and had Henry. My point was that when they met up again in the show, it seemed more like Neal was interested in Emma romantically, while Emma (though she never stopped loving him), was more interested in Neal as a good friend.
April 27, 2015 at 2:51 pm #302904KebParticipantSwanfire may not have been officially together in the present, but they did love each other and Belle suggested that the swan necklace’s ability to cross realms pointed to their love being of the True variety. They were a canon couple, at least in the past. And A&E did encourage their fans to have hope, only to crush it in the cruellest manner possible.
So…while I think (hope, desperately believe) Rumbelle has a good chance of escaping that fate, pointing to any clues from Adam and especially Eddy suggesting we should root for them…is unhelpful at best.
