Okay i have a weird theory but here it goes. What if Jafar’s Snake Staff is the source of his magic and without it he can’t do magic. Also whoever posses the Snake Staff gets to use magic. Basically the Snake Staff is like magic wands for evil people.

I think you’re on to something. The RQ seemed quite scared of the snake when Jafar made its eyes go red.

In the sequel to Aladdin, Jafar wished to become an all-powerful genie. I think it’s possible that though he is a sorcerer now, his powers have their limits. Hence, why Jafar wants the wishes that Cyrus granted Alice. Maybe he’ll make a deal with Alice: she gives him her wishes in exchange for Cyrus. He doesn’t currently know where Alice is and couldn’t get to her, which is why the Red Queen said Jafar needed her alive.

I wonder if the staff is like Rumple’s dagger. If he were to have it shattered all his spells, and possibly himself, would be undone. In Aladdin, the movie, when Aladdin smashes the staff, Jasmine and the Sultan wake up from their spell.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"I don’t think Jafar is a genie…. Yet. I remember that Genie said genies cannot kill anyone. Yet he was clearly trying to kill Red Queen. I think if anyhing, Jafar has fulfilled his first wish (to be the sultan) which is how he knows everything going on in Agrabah, and his second wish (to be an all powerful sorceror).

But what could be his motive to that. I think to that the stuff is something like the dagger or the wand of a fiary, and I love the idea with glowing eyes somethink like wishes. Maybe once Jafar got a wish ansd wanted to be a powerful sourcerer, but as we learned it in once and in Wonderland. Every wish comes also with a string, or price. Maybe the stuff who gives him the power is also something that he loved a log time ago. Maybe Jasmine, who got transformed and now he needs a reverse wish, but thats normaly also a not possibile or? You can’t take a wish back, like you can take a chess move back or somebody is dead and he wants to tries to get the Beloved back like that, cause their is no other way, cause this would break the magical rules.
So also a question is how powerful are the wishes?

Well actually. Genies CAN bring the dead back to life. In Aladdin genie says he can do it but he WONT do it: “ITS NOT A PRETTY PICTURE! I DONT LIKE DOING IT!” is what he says.
