Of course, the written source is already exquisite, but still, the amazing talent and skill of recreating the magic is top quality.
design, acting, execution.
the stuff that art is made of.
today…and probably in a small part of my soul, everything is Gaelic!!!
Even knowing what I know is coming, it is still mesmerizing.

September 21, 2014 at 10:28 am #282901RumplesGirlKeymasterI think I am able to form coherent thoughts now.
What an incredible episode! It felt very real. The way Jamie and Claire talked, really getting to know each other first, since this marriage is a bit out of the ordinary.
The wedding itself was lovely. Claire looked stunning! And Jaime looked ever so handsome in all his proper tartan. And then he spent the rest of the episode is nothing but a shirt that kept riding up, so I’m good with that too. (chiseled, that man is chiseled)
Dougal worries me. At times I like him because he is devoted to his cause and then he hits on Claire on her wedding night and I’m like, “back off, dude!”
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"September 21, 2014 at 2:17 pm #282915Bo-PeepsParticipantThey have stayed so true to the soul of the literary characters. Visually, they’ve hit the jackpot with their actors choices, too.
I remember reading The Thornbirds when I was a young teen and being extremely annoyed when they made it into a miniseries and cast an actor who didn’t look or act a thing like Father Ralph of the novel. Oddly enough, Father Ralph was a sultry, dark haired, blue-eyed Irish hunk (hmmm) and they got a pale, beige, wishy-washy American TV actor to portray him. Grrr. Not so with this series…the portrayals are amazingly true to their creator’s vision.
Dougal is a highly-controlled weapon of mass destruction.
His portrayal is quietly and deeply full on, but in that supremely self-serving, realist passion is the element of deadly treachery. Some honor definitely exists in him, but he is still a very crude, self-indulgent chauvinist beyond the *faux* honor -towards -women illusion of Celtic gallantry.
He fascinates but he is instantly lethal at any second. His honor doesn’t come from a loving soul, as Jamie’s does.
Jamie is starting, now, to think like a man, act like a man and hold his own as a man in Dougal’s world. A dangerous place to be. Both he and Dougal know this as well.

September 28, 2014 at 1:24 pm #283501RumplesGirlKeymasterFantastic mid-season finale (ARG! when does it come back???)
Thoughts at random
–Frank has a bit of Black Jack in him, doesn’t he? More than suspected
–Loved watching Claire get lessons in defense from the lads. They’ve really accepted her as “one of us.” Kinda beautiful given the hostilities between the Brits and Scots elsewhere.
–Worst interruption…ever. (you know what I’m talking about)
–Superstition and twiddle twaddle. I’m going to use that from now on
— Very interesting that Claire and Frank could hear each other at the rocks
–Jaime to the rescue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"March 26, 2015 at 7:02 am #299917onceaholicParticipantI was watching this show too, last year. I have also read the first Outlander book.
I think Jaime and Claire’s husband are perfectly cast, not only do they look the part, but they act the part down to a tee. I am disappointed with Claire’s casting though. I have always imagined her as more vulnerable and more ”earth woman” in her appearance, but strong in character. The actress captures her fiery spirit, no but not the vulnerable appearance.
I am also irritated with the narration. I don’t mind the odd excerpt from the book to explain how Claire is feeling, but I would prefer if the actress was talented enough to use her face and voice to give us access to the character’s inner world, so that we are shown how she feels or what she thinks, not told what she thinks via narration. There was one scene early on when the scotsmen first find her and take her back to the hut (where she first meets Jaime) where the narration and the facial expression didn’t match at all.
