As for the “is this the final season’ debate…often times TV shows don’t know that their finale season is their finale season. Some TV shows get an advanced warning but most do not. The begging people to watch, the tons of former stars (fan favorites coming back) might be an indication that the show runners/ ABC know something we do not, yet. OR it could be them trying to stem the tide and get the ratings needed to keep their boat afloat for another year. Right now, we’re not dreadful as far as ratings go, but if we continue to fall as do (and we will, nature of the beast and all that) it’s getting closer to the cancel territory.

Yep, both the network and the creators want to be able to milk what’s left of the show as long as they possibly can. Depending on how ratings go, they could give them the option for one last half Season, just to wrap up what they want to wrap up. That can happen, but it’s not always, and nor is it usually the case.
September 15, 2015 at 6:27 pm #308060RumplesGirlKeymasterIf we were to remain absolutely steady from where we left off at the end of 4 (around a 1.8) then we’d get a sixth season, probably even a full order. But it’s going to largely depend on how far we drop (below a 1.4 would be baaaad) and what sort of half seasons the writers can pitch to ABC.

And of course there’s also the matter of actor contracts. We don’t quite know when they expire, and many of them very well could at the end of this Season. If one core actor or more choose to pursue other projects, that could put a nail in the coffin for the show.

And that might be the biggest factor of them all. If Bobby was given a 5 yr as most thought, then his is up at the end, though he’s indicated that he enjoys the money from TV as opposed to indie films.

Assuming it’ll happen. I don’t really think they’ll split up Aurora and whats-his-face. This show has yet to split up a Disney canon couple.
Idk how I feel about Merida/Mulan pairing. 1) She’s new here. She could be evil for all we know 😛 2)I’m not aware of her character from the movie as it is, let alone how she will be portrayed on OUAT.
But yeah, no, shipping aside, this season really better crank up the girl power. We have an archer, a warrior, a werewolf, and two witches (assuming Zelena plays the role of a hero) and a bookworm beauty who is gonna be in on the action! This could be really good.
Oh, and Snow White is in there somewhere.

They split up Robin Hood and Maid Marian, but they aren’t really among the super iconic Disney pairings. Maid Marian is not officially a part of the Disney Princess brand, for one. However, Mulan technically is in the Disney Princess line (even though she’s not actually a princess), and if they go through with pairing her with another woman instead of Shang, than that would be splitting up a Disney canon couple. Unless they change Shang into a woman.

Have Ruby go undercover as a male warrior named Shang and that’s how she meets Mulan! It would fulfill the Disney film (Mulan and Shang get together) but then give it an OUAT twist. Everyone wins.
Guys, can we please overthrow the OUAT writing staff and write the show ourselves 😛

And I’m using that loosely. It’s a quick and easy way to get an LGBT pairing to silence all the criticism without having to develop the ship after they get together. We know Mulan is coming back for 5B (presumably, according to Adam) but there has been no word on Red or Merida. So pairing Mulan with a female who is destined for Forgotten Character Island kills a few birds with one stone: silence critics, gets a buzzworthy LGBT pairing, but allows the writers to forget all about them after the fact.
