KeymasterPersonally, I think he’s better than this. He is capable of playing very intense characters with depth and with violent undertones (go watch The Fall) but that are about..oh..50million steps above this.
BUT. I hope it is better for his career than my pessimism allows.

ParticipantThis could either be a career maker or a career breaker, depending on how cheesy the movie ends up being. If it’s actually done well, and received and reviewed well, then Jamie’s gonna get massive, positive press all over the world, which would be a big boost for his career. If it ends up being totally cheesy and horrible and gets reviewed really poorly, then the world’s media will be talking crap about him instead.
He’s totally capable of getting his gear off in front of a camera and having it be classy and HAWT instead of tacky, as anyone who’s seen his underwear model shots can attest to. But photos are different to live action, and I haven’t read the books, but I imagine there’s a risk of the dialogue coming across as rather tacky in the movie.

ParticipantSeeing how fanatic people are about this movie (pro and contra), I wouldn’t touch it for the sake of anything. It comes with stalker guarantee, fanatic love and fanatic hate.
¯\_(?????? ?)_/¯

I agree.
I’ve heard so much about 50 Shades of Gray and I’m honestly fascinated how it has roots in fanfiction of all places. I plan to see it with my girlfriends when it comes out.

ParticipantCareer maker or breaker? It all depends of whether they manage to make a movie that is infinitely better than the book. About a year ago, I started reading it, just to see what all the hoopla was about, and though there have been repeated attempts, I have not been able to finish it. The characters are beyond exasperating, and the book itself is very poorly written (and I’m not just saying that – I’m a teacher AND a writer). I keep falling asleep. When I do manage to stay awake to read it, I find myself getting increasingly annoyed, particularly by the female protagonist. She’s a little girl who is willing to become submissive to this poor, twisted man just because she thinks he’s hot. I could go on an on about the book, but I won’t bore you with my views and besides, like I said, I haven’t even finished it!
But back to Jamie….sigh…I was very disappointed to hear the news. I sincerely hope he backs out of this project. From what I heard, most other actors won’t touch this role with a ten-foot pole. And what are the odds of them making a movie version that is better than the book? They’d have to basically rewrite the whole thing and I believe the author is involved in the project – no way she’ll let that happen.
Sadly for Jamie….I predict 50 Shades of FAIL.

ParticipantNow hold on guys. I think it’s rash to call this movie a failure before we even see it.

ParticipantI know…I know…I agree, it’s rash…but the book is SO BAD. I sincerely hope for Jamie’s sake it isn’t. It’ll probably make tons of money anyway. It’ll probably be another Twilight saga (and don’t get me started on THOSE books!)
