Jane Espenson chats exclusively to Once Upon A Fan, previewing “The Miller’s Daughter” and what’s to come as we head towards the season two finale.

I think fandom turns into a job, when you are placed in a position to worry about what’s going to happen to your favorite. For the writers to not appreciate that position, is a situation where I believe there are blinders which prevent a healthy perspective on, and appreciation for a fan’s point of view. With Colin O’Donoghue’s leg and everything, I’m concerned about whether this may have changed any plans about how things will pan out for Hook, and whether we’ll still see Colin around on the show next season. I already loved Once Upon A Time before Hook, but when he arrived, it changed the show forever for me. That’s when I stopped being a “watcher”, and turned into a “fan”. I would have never cared enough about Once Upon A Time to even think about having a twitter page. I would have never taken an interest in who “The Enemies” are, if he had never come along. I would not have even thought about joining an online discussion forum, and would not have had a chance to contribute to all of the wonderful conversations we have here.
As for the finale and season 3, I know Neverland will be involved, and I know Captain Hook would logically be assumed to be involved in some way (Neverland without Captain Hook?), but who is to say what form Captain Hook will take where that’s concerned? Personally, my wish is to see Colin active with the show, in a present-day setting. It will break my heart if he leaves Once. I think if he did…I think it’d kill Once Upon A Time for me. I love this show. Hook is so redeemable, there are still so many possibilities, and I just hope I’ll still have something to love about it when everything pans out.
March 5, 2013 at 5:04 pm #177356RumplesGirlKeymaster–I’m glad she feels really confident about season three renewal, the thread on ratings has been panicked for the past few days.
–I think season three is going to be amazing. Neverland/Peter Pan is a story that H and K really love so I think they’re going to do amazing things with it.
–Her “three lumps” line with Rumple, my guess: Cora (telling her he loves her and having her crush him), Bae (as he lays dying, really trying to apologizing for what he did) and Belle (calling to hear her voice one final time before his death) [and then Snow saves him]
–I doubt I’ll be more sympathetic to Cora. Jane is a fantastic writer, but I realllllly dislike Cora."He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"March 5, 2013 at 5:06 pm #177358sarah_tnParticipant@RumplesGirl wrote:

I’m not worried about Captain Hook. He’s the anchor of so many fans’ viewership, I think it’s safe to say he’ll be around again. He may have suffered an injury, but he’ll be back by the season’s end.
Once Upon A Time Season 2 Interview: Colin O’Donoghue “Captain Hook”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XBpufrqj2E&feature=player_embeddedSpoiler Chat Daily: Neverland?
Dahlia: Once Upon a Time scoop please!
While the only answer Colin O’Donoghue would give us when we asked if he’s filmed any scenes in Neverland yet was a coy smile and a nervous deflection, the show’s creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis revealed that the two-part season two finale episode titles are “Second Star to the Right” and “And Straight On ‘Til Morning.” Hmmm…

March 5, 2013 at 5:20 pm #177362RumplesGirlKeymasterHe’s already shot some Neverland stuff? So they will get to Neverland before the final moments of the season finale? SCORE.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"March 5, 2013 at 5:23 pm #177363SlurpeezParticipantYeah, plus for all the Captain Swan shippers, there could be hope. The panel discussion at PaleyFest was rather telling, if you read between the lines:
Q: What’s the balance about making Hook, Captain Hook, but also making him ultimately pairable with one of these women?”
A: “Well, you know, I think he is out for himself. The interesting thing about our show is that we don’t write all the good characters completely good and we don’t write all the bad characters completely bad. At the end of the day, they’re all searching for their own happy endings. It’s just some of them have a harder path.” Eddy Kitsis, at Paleyfest answering. And:

March 5, 2013 at 5:26 pm #177365jolly rogerParticipantI’m so happy that they’re doing season 3! 😀
RumplesGirl- I know what you mean. I really don’t like Cora either, she’s so horrible. Even if she did have a hard life when she was young, it doesn’t excuse her for all the hurt she has done. The fact that she knows what it feels like should have motivated her to make sure Regina is happy and that she should do what she wants. I highly doubt that I will sympathise her.
I can’t wait though!March 5, 2013 at 5:28 pm #177367RumplesGirlKeymasterThat last pic of Colin. Unf.
I think CaptainSwan will happen because the sexual tension between the two is pretty hot, but……there is the whole Emma’s son’s father, Neal, mother was Hook’s true love. Slightly odd.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"March 5, 2013 at 5:33 pm #177370SlurpeezParticipantThis has become the “Captain Swan” thread, which I never intended here, but here is another hint at what’s in store:
PaleyFest 2013: Colin O’Donoghue Talks ONCE UPON A TIME
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKtdQ5AoI_gNote Colin O’Donoghue’s answer when asked if Hook is serious about maybe pursuing something with Emma:
“I don’t know. I don’t know you have to wait and see. He could be, he might be.”
In other words, “Yes.”
