KeymasterHere are some Tweets from Jane regarding her episode last night.
@natalieireneann a past. A past with sparks, I bet. Romantic? It's not clear. We'll have to see!

@copyright1974 it was a medieval status dish and a wink to their future conflict, yes. That's why rumple pointed it out. Not making fun!

@SophLW darkness, like other environmental influences, can alter the genes.

ParticipantGenetically altered darkness! I totally suggested that as a random thought in a thread just before. Now I’m all intrigued.

ParticipantThis doesn’t make sense to me. Rumple conceived Bae when he was still just a normal man. So even if Rumple’s dark curse retroactively altered his genetic make-up, that would not have been passed onto Bae or Henry. So unless Rumple was exposed to magic as a child before he ever fathered Bae it doesn’t make sense that Bae inherited magic.

I think that is what Jane is saying. Once Rumple became the Dark One and Bae lived with him, it rubbed off on him a little. It’s…wonky science.

By Jane’s description, it appears dark magic seems to works like radiation: the mere closeness to massive amounts of it is enough to taint you. Blue sensed that dark magic surrounded Bae in The Return, so I guess that’s the case.

ParticipantWhat I would love to know is, how could Rumple know Emmas last name, yet he needed Snow to tell him her first name -.- like i know he can only see parts if the future but still.

If this is the case, why hasn’t Belle been affected by it? She lived with Rumple in FTL, and now she shares a bed with him in Storybrooke.

I suggest everyone read Screwball’s Essay on how Lacey and Belle are actually much more similar and that Belle isn’t exactly the goody two shoes we sometimes make her out to be: http://screwballninja.tumblr.com/post/63687743483/lacey-belle-with-the-brakes-off-essay-in-6

ParticipantI know we talked about this before, and maybe the writers tweeted something to suggest it, but maybe the Dark Magic in Henry’s life is Regina’s influence. She is the mom with a Dark Heart who raised him. I can’t remember where that was though or if they confirmed but most certainly it could be in various senses beyond genetics.
