I think Jefferson knows more about the Enchanted Forest than he’s willing to tell Charming at this point. Somehow, Jefferson knew that land still existed. Despite telling Charming he was now without a portal, I think he does have one: the hat that Emma made for him in 1×17 Hat Trick. When he fell out of the window, he seemed to disappear into the hat Emma made him. There’s a reason that Jefferson fled from Charming; he could be keeping a secret.

Maybe that was part of his curse. I mean if he was the only one to remember maybe Regina made it so that he couldn’t hurt himself as a way to end his curse early. Maybe there was some sort of magic on the house so he couldn’t throw himself off the roof or something.
October 8, 2012 at 3:46 am #156005nonnieParticipantI THOUGHT Emma took the hat …. when Hatter went out the window. The hat was on the ground when they went to find him… then they had to hurry back to the jail for Snow …. They took the hat with them.
I do not think Hatter has the hat.

Good point that one!
I still think he knew EF/FTL existed because the Hat connected to EF/FTL when Regina wanted to get magic last season, he could have gone to or just seen EF, when he fell through the Hat (if he did in deed fall through the Hat), either that or he was more involved with the curse than we currently know.

Or, considering how Jefferson has been watching the town and knows everything that has gone on, maybe he retrieved the hat at some point. One thing is for sure, there is another hat out there that Emma made.

(Therefore, he may have passed through the Enchanted Forest or somehow seen it as they walked through his hat.) In the first episode, we saw Regina go to Storybrooke with Snow White and Prince Charming. Regina makes the comment that she brought Jefferson ‘here 28 years ago.’ Was this thought the curse or not?
Also, I believe Jefferson’s hat never worked in Hat Trick. If you watch closely, one of Jefferson’s basement windows is open behind Emma and her mom while they are talking outside. He probably crawled in because he wanted to escape…and because he want Emma to think that the hat took him somewhere else. If Emma did believe in the magic of the hat, she would know that he was the Mad Hatter, and that the curse was real.

BUT …. I thought Emma took the hat when she took MM back to jail before Regina could find out she had fled. I think the hat that Emma made is somewhere in the jail lost and found or evidence locker. Maybe PC will find it..
October 13, 2012 at 3:08 am #156501hmverhagenParticipantI have no idea where it went. Last I saw the hat was tossed in Emma’s car. She probably hid it from Henry because she doesn’t want him to know what Jefferson did to her.

Yeah, I’ve never believed that the hat Emma made worked either. You need more than half a second and a tumbling hat to whip up a portal. From that we’ve seen, it’s gotta be sitting flat and be spun by the right person in the right way, then there’s a purple, twisty, smoky vortex that fills the whole area around you before it sucks you in. We saw none of that when he fell out the window, so I think he just landed and scrambled in the lower window.
Also, if he DID fall through the hat, and DID know that it worked, we would have seen him hunting down Emma and the hat after that ep, so he could use it again. But we never saw that.
