JoAnna Garcia (Ariel) Cast in New ABC Summer Series

Houston, we most definitely don’t have a problem.

JoAnna Garcia Swisher has landed one of the lead roles in Astronaut Wives Club, ABC’s straight-to-series adaptation of Lily Koppel’s 2013 bestseller, TVLine has learned.

Penned by Gossip Girl‘s Stephanie Savage, the drama follows a group of women who support their star-bound husbands during the 1960s space race.

Swisher, who’s set to wrap up her stint as Ariel on Once Upon a Time later this season, will play Betty, the wife of one of the original astronauts. Betty’s got a down-home appeal, which endears her to the public. She also seems to have something of a clairvoyant gift when it comes to her dreams which often prove all too accurate. Terrified that her husband will die, Betty is growing increasingly nervous. She had worked hard to put Gus through college, and raised their son solo while he was off at war. She’s beginning to feel like they’re no longer a team.

The show itself is a limited 10 episode straight to series airing this summer on ABC. Always possible for renewal but it shouldn’t affect ONCE too much if they want her to return for S4

That means Belle is going to lose another friend again.  I was really hoping Ariel would become a regular.

I loved Ariel, and agree, she fit so well but maybe they can develop Snow and Belle for once as friends?  It feels overdue and much as I love having a larger cast of characters, truthfully they have a strange pattern of making Snow and Belle friends with the exact same people, just not at the same scene.  It’s time to show that bond between Snow and Belle, I feel.

The fact that it’s going straight to series probably means that it won’t be going on beyond a S1. So it’s possible that ONCE *may* try to snag her for at least a guest star role after that. I’d hate to loose Ariel too. She’s fun to watch.

*Debbie downer voice* Do we really think Ariel could become a regular? I mean, world jumping is kind of a big deal in OUAT since its hard to for all worlds. Having her would be very convient (yes, I know I spelled that wrong >>) at times because it would be like “oh, we need to find/communicate to this person/thing in [insert ANY land]? Just send our friendly neighborhood world hopper :D” where as before that would have posed a problem >> I dont mean to sound like the emo depressing person here, but thats something to think about. Maybe they aren’t planning to intergrate Ariel fully into our core group…. She and Eric may decide to stay in the EF and she nay randomly visit throughout the series
