Well Ursula could have killed her father and taken over the kingdom, thus she is a usurped Princess.

It’s Phillip lmao… That boy does get about wouldn’t surprise me
Joking aside I look forward to the twist once will take with Ariel as we all know there’s bound to be a twist… Maybe Sebastian was a real man turned into a crab because he liked Ariel more than ursula lmao

The entire conflict in the movie is that a little mermaid, forbidden by her father from going above water, nevertheless falls in love with a human. At 30 years of age, is a woman really bound by the rules of her father?
I admit, I’d thought they might cast her early 20s at the oldest. Though we don’t know exactly how old the character is meant to be, because JoAnna is the same age as JMo, who is playing a bit younger.
With JoAnna’s age in mind though, I’ve been wondering about how they could work with it, and wondered if perhaps as a teen she was being her rebellious self, going off exploring where she wasn’t supposed to, and she ended up finding her way to FTL and got trapped there for years, (during which time she became fascinated with humans), which is why she’s in her 30s in present day, (though what that means for her actual age in mermaid years, who knows, because Anderson wrote that they can live to be 300, but we dunno if K&H’s mermaids will). Her dealing with Regina was her trying to find a way home to NL.
i’ve watched JG in Privileged this week having known she was cast as Ariel and it’s like that was a mini interview its funny there’s a scene where this guy calls her a disney princess and her room is full of sea shells and she even uses one at one point as a weapon made me laugh cos she actually is now and Ariel of all people.. funny how the world works huh
😆 She was destined for this role! I’ll have to check out Privileged at some point.
but they never mention Triton. So it could be that they are doing away with her father altogether and focusing on Ariel, Eric, and Ursula.
What makes me think they’ll have Triton is that Rumple had a trident in his hall of trophies. There’s gotta be a story to how he got it. The only scene it’s visible in is the scene where Regina mentions the mermaid.

He’s not satisfied with having Aurora, plus Mulan crushing on him, he’s gotta have Ariel too. What a greedy little bugger. 😛

forgot about that! I wonder if Rumple made a deal for that Trident.

To tie it in with the theory I mentioned about Ariel being trapped in FTL, perhaps Triton made a deal with Rumple to try and find her? Triton isn’t gonna hand over his trident for any old deal, but if it’s to find or protect one of his children, he would. Could sorta be a nod to the Disney version where he swaps places with Ariel as Ursula’s prisoner and she ends up with his trident.
