The story HappyEndings is referring to is called Splash.
I don’t *love* the idea of Regina being Ursula but if anyone can do it, it’s Lana.

That’s an Ursula thing.
Yes, I completely agree that Lana Parrilla would make an excellent Sea Witch. Lana has even stated that she would love to play Ursula.
WGTC:You mentioned Ursula and a lot of people want to know, do you think there’s a possibility that like the Disney movies there could be a musical episode? I think it’d be awesome if you played Ursula and sang like ‘Poor Unfortunate Souls’ or something like that.
Lana Parrilla: I know I would love that! [Laughs]
Here is the clip from Paley Fest 2012 in which Lana begged Eddy and Adam if she could play Ursula, starting at the 1:04 mark:
And guess who Lana’s favorite Disney character is? That’s right, Ursula. Check out her reasons for saying so in the clip starting at the 36 sec mark:
She’s even tried to incorporate some of Ursula into her portrayal as the Evil Queen:
What’s it like to play a character we all know so well, but go beyond caricature?
Lana Parrilla: I don’t think we’ve seen humanity, well, maybe later with Disney characters. The one that comes to mind is Ursula. You can see a desperation in her, which is something I’ve been able to show in the Evil Queen, because they write it. I think what people are going to love about our show is that these characters are very human, even though they are these iconic caricatures.
Transcript of S1 DVD BTS – Lana Parrilla: The original movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, I didn’t use a lot of that. What I did use mostly is a bit of Ursula. You know, the big body, the laughter. Certain scenes require that kind of big animation and then some don’t.

So excited about JoAnna Garcia as Ariel on Once Upon a Time. Do you have any scoop?— Nina
NATALIE: As the producers previously teased, Ariel has ties to a character we already know. “She’s somebody who wants to see the world,” executive producer Edward Kitsis says. “That spirit will run in her DNA still, but we’ll meet her in a surprising way.” We hear that will take place in Neverland, where other mermaids may not be so nice. But the good news is that we’ll also likely meet Prince Eric!Guys, which characters have always wanted to see the world?
- Dreamy & Nova
- Belle
- Ariel
- Hook and his father (Hook told Bae he and his father, a fugitive, were to set sail to foreign realms aboard a ship)
Could there possibly be a connection between these characters? I have said I don’t believe Ariel and Eric are Killian Jones’ parents, but what if they are? :-O

August 21, 2013 at 2:28 pm #206098RumplesGirlKeymasterWell, I’m not sure the two thoughts are going together. I think they are two separate things.
Ariel
1) has a connection to someone
2) she likes adventure and wishes to see the world.
Dreamy and Nova I’m going to rule out because Dreamy stayed in FTL in the mines or in the Dwarf cottage and Nova remained a fairy.
Belle…maybe? We don’t know much about her life prior to Skin Deep except that she seemed to be more or less under the thumb of her father, living like a future Duchess, but dreaming of adventure.
Hook is my first bet. My headcanon says they’ve never met before but it makes sense that he’d be the connection.

I think that is where all this is going, yes. Which bugs me given that Regina is probably also Tink’s surprising connection. But given Lana’s desire to play Ursula, the fact that she’s incorporated bits of Ursula into her own performance of the EQ, and that, let’s face it, Lana plays Evil better than anyone…she’s going to be the Sea Witch.
For me, at least, in order for them to really sell Regina as Ursula, there better be a really fantastic twist.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"August 21, 2013 at 2:36 pm #206101TheWatcherParticipantUgh…even if Regina takes on the “role” of Ursula I’d still like to see the Ursula character. Regina could be the one who made the deal with Ariel and hell, Ursula could even be the good guy, so technically Regina would still count as the sea witch) but I love Ursula too much to not see her in all her tentacle wickedness…
….Put Regina in some tentacles and then we’ll talk.

In my imagination, Regina casts a spell on herself to be able to breathe underwater. That spell could include some CGI tentacles. It would probably look something like this.

Did she eat some gillyweed? Maybe stole some from Rumple’s potions supplies….
Sorry, confusing my fandoms. 😛

August 21, 2013 at 3:23 pm #206111RumplesGirlKeymasterDoes Regina *have* to go under the sea in order to be Ursula? Couldn’t she very well stay on dry land and conduct her business with a mermaid? I know Ursula is the Sea Witch but at this point I’m thinking anything they do to get Regina under water will look monumentally silly.
