I’d be fine if he’s not anyone from Oz. I don’t understand the point of that story……. I guess he’s going to lose his memory; how is he going to regain it, no matter who he is, and find his way back to SB?

I don’t think he’ll be anyone from Oz. I don’t think anyone outside of Regina will have any sort of connection to the Oz myth. I think Rumple’s storyline this season is more “getting back from wherever he landed and learning to be a non-magical man again” with help from Bae and Belle.

My theory is that after Bae leaves Neverland he’s transported to Oz, where he meets the Wizard. The Wizard, as we all know, is from Kansas and a con man who has no magical abilities even though the people of Oz think otherwise. We also know that the Wizard eventually returns to his world via the Balloon that Dorothy misses. I’m thinking that while he’s in Oz, and it can be a short period and give us a chance to see an older Dylan or even just revealed in dialogue, that Bae learns con man ways from the Wizard. Then they return together in the balloon to our world and Bae takes up his survival thieving/con man ways and transforms into Neal Cassidy. Ta da!
Another nail in the Rumple=Wizard coffin is this bit of dialogue we’ve posted a few times from 2×05 “The Doctor”:
Jefferson: I got what you wanted.
(Jefferson hands Rumpelstiltskin a crystal ball.)
Rumpelstiltskin: What about the slippers?
Jefferson: Oh. Couldn’t find ‘em. Heard talk they’ve already been moved to another land.
Rumpelstiltskin: That’s what I needed to get to that other land.
Jefferson: Well, come with me in my hat. I’m sure we can work something out.
Rumpelstiltskin: No, no. Your hat only transports between magical realms. I need to get to a land without magic.
Jefferson: Why would anyone want that?
Rumpelstiltskin: My business.
Jefferson: You want the ball or not?
(He takes the crystal ball.)

Rumple being Wizard does have a bit to go on…but I don’t think Rumple has any Oz Connections.
Rumple: All connections linked to Neverland
Regina: All connections linked to Oz
Regina: Two connections to NL was Ursula and Ariel
Rumple: Possible connections to Oz could be The Wizard and the Wicked Witch of the East…

I hope that’s true…..that would be a good storyline, made even better if Belle actually gets something to do. I also want to see him, with Belle, dealing with being a mortal because that has huge ramifications. He’s going to die – like everyone else (he’s probably happy about that; most immortals on tv shows or in movies eventually get tired of life). He’s much older than Belle physically. I really need that to be explored. Anyhow, I love your theory and it begs the question of why even bother going to Oz in the first place? Is it really necessary ?
If the Wizard is someone from the present cast, than I really like your idea of it being Neal, @Josephine. It would definitely explain the disconnect some of us feel between Bae and Neal. I agree that Rumple is not the Wizard. Like Jo said, the Wizard is a con man. Rumple wasn’t a con man by any means when he was the Dark One and when he did get powers, he didn’t con – the made deals or threatened. But his deals were always pretty straightforward – “I’ll what you want but it’s gonna cost you.” And besides, I know Bobby can pull it off, but HOW many characters have they meshed into one person? Seriously, spread the wealth.
I’m thinking the Diana pic has to do with the Castle spoiler and then OUAT was tossed in as a redirect. It makes more sense for that show since the leads are engaged and their wedding planning is a part of the sub-storylines.
