ParticipantAaahhhh, Gold in Rumple clothing is awesome!!
And I’d better turn down the temperature because it just got really hot in here. It’s like he just became both characters. All the best of Gold and Rumple into one body. I think I just had a hot flash.
THIS!!
I predict that the doll was Rumple’s favorite toy as a child and he left it with PP when Rumple left NL to “go grow up”
I’m thinking that this doll is likely a little handmade doll, similar to the rabbit that Jefferson made for Grace. We will most definitely see this doll in flashback.
I’ve been thinking for ages that Rumple may have been a Lost Boy, just like his son was, and his grandson now is. Part of me had been really hoping that Rumple’s time in NL had only been when he was a child, because if he was there during the time Bae was there but had no idea how close he was, I just dunno that my heart could take it! So I’m liking this spoiler that suggests his childhood is tied to NL.
I reckon he had that doll with him when he was brought there, and it got left behind when PP kicked him out. This could very well give some credence to the theory of them being brothers. If that doll had belonged to Peter before it was Rumple’s, and if Rumple had it with him when he arrived, Peter would have recognised it. They could do a big, emotional scene, where littleRumple has no idea what’s going on because he was just a baby when Peter left and never knew he’d had an older brother, and Peter will hold the doll, look at it wistfully and say, “I remember when our mother made this,” and that could be the reason he kept it and it’s still in NL today.
PP does traditionally have a younger sibling. He sees the baby with his parents, (or maybe it’s just with his mother?) and that’s what makes him give up on wanting to be in the human world and he goes to live with the fairies full time and never turns back. PP may have hated Rumple from birth.
but if Rumple’s DO curse is stripped away, will he still be able to use magic? It might be interesting for awhile if Rumple were an normal guy, but it wouldn’t be as entertaining to watch if he couldn’t use magic.
This is something I’ve been wondering about too, lately. I wonder if he’d still be able to do basic magic, or re-learn how to do it, if the Dark One was ripped out of him? At least we’d always still have magical Rumple in flashbacks, even if he was mortal in present day.
As for Eric making an appearance in NL, I have so many questions about him possibly being Killian Jones. Although, if HookedQueen isn’t going to happen, then I don’t find Hookriel as troublesome as much as I once did. Could Killian’s middle name be Eric? Hmmm…..
Well, the only thing they really confirmed is that Ariel herself is in NL. I’d love to see vid of the whole panel, just to see exactly how they worded things about Ursula and Eric. If we have Ariel as a major player in NL, Ursula and Eric could just be supporting characters in her backstory? Though obviously, I can’t lie, I’d be totally fine with it if Eric = Hook. If Eric is someone separate, and is in NL, who is he? How did he get there? Because it doesn’t seem like a world that many people go to unless they’re taken there by a Shadow. And how does Ariel become fascinated by the human world, if all she’s seen was dreary NL? I think she’s gotta be in FTL at some point, so could her Eric be from there too?
Was there a comment that came out of the panel about no more new characters being introduced in the first 11? I can’t see a tweet about it in here, but thought I at least saw it mentioned in the chat, (I was terribly sleep deprived at the time though, so maybe I’m mis-remembering)? If that is the case, and if they are giving us some Ariel backstory in the first 11, I think that strengthens the case for Hook being Eric. If they’re putting off revealing anything about her backstory until the 2nd half of the season, then there’s more potential for a separate Eric to show up.

ParticipantThe new clip was just wonderful- Rumple was like a cross between his old self and Mr. Gold. I am really curious about that doll- didn’t make the connection that Rumple was once a lost boy. I thought it had something to do with Bae, that maybe he somehow knew that Bae had been there. But who knows? The doll was a little figure made of bound straw wearing a blue jacket. For the record, Felix refers to Rumple as The Dark One.

STRAW! Thanks for that bit of info. Straw is a major thing in Rumple’s life. I now have an image of the Stiltskins living in a very humble dwelling, no toys for the kid to play with, and so the only option is to bundle up some straw and turn it into a doll.
I’m so stupidly jealous that you’ve seen the Rumple clip, angiebelle. 😛 That panel must have been so fun!

ParticipantI was thrilled with all the spoilers today. EXCEPT: it REALLY REALLY bothers me when Adam/Eddy keep saying that the JR crew is going back to who they really are. I’m sorry, there is nothing in this world that will ever convince me that, at heart, Gold IS the Dark One. That’s who he’s been for 300 years, but that is not who he really is. Belle knows this and we know it. God, they had him say that he wants to go back to his best self; they’ve shown him to have an incredibly tortured backstory. Asking us to believe that Gold’s real honest and core self IS the Dark One not only means there is a huge disconnect between what they’re writing and what we see on screen, it means that – the curse means nothing in regards to his life. How does this make sense? For all of his life, he was a good man, a beautiful soul – and he is still that man, struggling to come out.
I adore Gold and to hear Adam and Eddy talk as if the real man is this Dark One hurts. I’m only hoping that perhaps they meant that he has to confront his childhood……because otherwise, nothing makes sense……..and I’ll tie this into my comments regarding the spoiler that Belle will affect Gold even though they are in different lands
I LOVE this spoiler because I want Gold to be thinking of Belle…………. of course she’s always going to affect him, and he’ll affect her. I think this is part of his struggle to be good while he knows he has to do some dark things…. He still so badly wants to be good and I can see him believing that what he has to do may permanently make him this monster he’s always seen himself as. He loves Belle so very much, and he needs her – Bobby couldn’t emphasize this enough at CC (not that we didn’t know it). I think he needs her NOW because he needs her or the thought of her to remind him that this is something that has to be done, that he is not doing anything in NL just for thrills, that he still has all that good in him..that he’s doing this for the love of his son and grandson, that he’s still full of love and that god ,no, he’s not a beast or a monster or anything. This is how I think she’s going to affect him…….I’m SO excited to see this play out. He does NOT want to die as the Dark Oe
So, to me, Gold going after the bad guys is him doing the right thing. Sorry, these people will never have sympathy from me. I know Adam/Eddy created ONCE, but if they think he is truly the DO, then I have no clue how they could write anything they’ve written – and it means Belle is wrong about him.

I was thinking the doll had something to do with Bae too – maybe a doll Rumple had made him when he was little? I especially thought it had something to do with Bae because of Rumple’s reaction – having Rumple break down and cry almost always has to do with either Bae or Belle.

ParticipantAlthough we did not see Bae holding anything, a straw doll could have been tucked in his shirt.

I think maybe it’s just a generalisation they’ve been using as a way to answer questions in the very short amount of time they have whenever they’re interviewed? What I’ve taken out of those comments is that they’re highlighting that PP is gonna be really hard to defeat, and if they’re gonna be able to do it, they each need to tap into the most badass version of themselves. They keep saying that Snow will need to be Bandit Snow. But that’s really just one aspect of her, it’s not all she is. By the same token, the Dark One is one aspect of Rumple, but it’s not all he is.
It seems though that he thinks it is what he will have to be completely, in order to get the job done. I think this newly revealed costume change may be something he does so that he’s more able to assume the Dark One side of himself. As long as he’s wandering around in his Mr Gold suit, it’ll hold him back mentally and emotionally, and he can’t afford that because any sign of weakness means he’s gonna be toast before he even gets close to rescuing Henry. And it also sounds like he plans to free the Lost Boys too while he’s at it. His first grand gesture as the Dark One was freeing children from war, and his last will be freeing children from PP.
While he feels the need to go Dark, he’s justifying it by sacrificing himself for someone else’s safety, (taking after his son with the self sacrificing stuff). He’s going into this assuming he’s going to die, but he’s gonna do it anyway, (it contrasts nicely with him running from the war, now that I’m thinking about it), because Henry (and the other boys) need to be saved. In the several 100 years previous, he’s sacrificed others to get what he wanted. So I don’t see him assuming his Dark One side in NL as him just simply giving into the darkness. As always he’ll be a complex mashup of the good hearted man and the demon. It’s just that the demon has to be in charge, given the perilous circumstances.
It will be interesting to see how Belle affects him in NL. Will their connection be a one time thing, or will it be something he can tap into whenever he needs a boost? And what will she say or do to try and keep him grounded? Will he give in to his better side after interacting with her? Or will the struggle be too great, and the danger be too near, that ultimately, he still feels the need to go dark anyway?
If that’s what K&H are setting up for his storyline, then I’m not worried about them not truly knowing the character. Like I said, I think their comments are really just a generalisation of a characterisation that’s actually very complex. When they only have 30 seconds to answer, they can’t delve into all the details.

He was in his pjs and dressing gown when he was taken by the Shadow though. Not a lot of places to stuff a doll made of straw, and why would he have it in his pjs pocket, anyway? A straw doll is gonna get crushed and destroyed if you’re sleeping with it.

ParticipantWhat if it’s not a doll owned by Bae. What if it’s a doll of Bae that someone made while he was in Neverland?

ParticipantOH! I just found another photo! It looks like he’s holding the doll, but I can’t make out what it is.
