ParticipantOh- and I was wrong! He doesn’t say how many lost boys he takes with him- he says how many of you.
This is why I so desperately wanted the clip online. Seeing it just once when your brain is melting over the awesomeness, no recap from anyone who was there could be totally accurate. But now we have it to watch over and over and pick apart properly. Even though it totally busts my idea that he was gonna attempt to liberate Lost Boys, I’m glad to have it clarified.
Seeing an amalgamation of Rumple and Mr. Gold is fantastic! Also, seeing a grown go from threatening to tearful in the blink of an eye was amazing acting. Robert Carlyle is a total master of his craft.
He’s so many different kinds of amazing. Someone give the man an award for this role already! I know that shows like this never get Emmy noms for the acting, but OMG SERIOUSLY.
Also, I took a screenshot of the doll made from straw. I agree that the doll does look masculine. It doesn’t resemble anyone though, so I’m left questioning whose doll it is: Rumple’s or Bae’s.
Taking the whole context of the scene, Rumple’s reaction, and Felix’s, and dialogue from a previous ep, it made me think even more that the doll was Rumple’s.
Felix: “Isn’t it funny, the things we haven’t thought about in years…still have the ability to make us cry.”
Wendy: “When night fell, that’s when all the children started to miss their parents, and they cried through the night.”
They had Rumple fall to his knees, bringing him down to a child’s height, (they could have just had him bend down to pick it up). Then they had Felix crouch down, the way an adult often will when speaking directly to a child. In that scene, Rumple was a child again IMO, and the doll was his, the only remaining thing that was a reminder of his lost parents, and it made him cry just like all the Lost Boys cry over missing their parents. The way Felix spoke about it, sounded like this particular brand of crying that Rumple was doing is something he witnesses all the time.

This! That is exactly how I read the scene as well. And I’m glad you brought in the Wendy qoute, it fits really well.

ParticipantYep. Having seen it play out, it does seem like the doll could be Rumple’s for all the reasons Phee wrote. Seeing Rumple brought to his knees was so moving and heart-wrenching.
On the plus side, we did get to see Rumple back in tight leather pants. 🙂

Let’s face it: this really is the biggest take away. 😉

KeymasterOk, rewatched. The look on Rumple’s face when Felix is telling him that Rumple is welcome in NL, that Pan has no problem with him being here, is heartbreaking. It’s one of longing and wishing and also one of remembering something painful.
1) Bless RC. Seriously, that man.
2) It’s my own reading of that moment, but I think it adds more to the whole “Rumple as a boy in NL” theory.

ParticipantI can’t remember where I posted it but I was right about Rumple threatening to take as many lost ones with him to the death.

ParticipantI still think it has to do with Bae, and what happened on Rumpel’s previous trip as the Dark One that he did not leave with his son.
We all figured Bae had been in NL (well maybe not all…coffee anyone?). Rumpel however might not have realized this yet. It might just have hit him that he pushed for the curse and maybe even traded PP for it, and all the while, Bae was there in NL. Pan hid his son from him, despite all his power.

ParticipantFeels like we should be making a new bet. Team Bae’s Doll vs Team Rumple’s Doll. 😆

Certainly is shaping up that way!

You bring up a good point. How much does Rumple know about Bae’s life after “The Return?” He says that his son has been running for a long time, which indicates he does know something about Bae’s life. If Rumple went to NL as the Dark One to meet with PP (brothers, ex-Lost Boy?) and demanded Neal back but PP refused (he needs him for Henry) and then PP did something to remind Rumple of the fear PP instilled in him as a young boy…I don’t know where I’m going with this anymore but if PP kept Bae from Rumple, that gives Rumple even more cause to hate him.
