I think having a page for each of the characters since we don’t know when any of them might be a game changer is a good idea, so if there is anyone who doesn’t have a page yet then I am adding one today plus it helps me keep track of who all the characters are. Recent spoilers have indicated that King George will also try to poison Snow perhaps using Lancelot so I thought we might have some discussion about his greed and his apparent inability to let PC go after he got his riches, or we assume he got his riches from Regina.

Hopefully Alan Dale will be given more to do with him this season. He can easily become a thorn in the side of David’s plans to restore calm in Storybrook, or he, like Regina, may seek a path towards redemption for his past mistakes.

Plus I think he really did love Charming’s brother. I want to know who his wife was and why he felt he had to make a deal with Rumple for his brother in the first place.. plus he could also be the greedy king from Rumple’s story, though I suppose Midas could be too..
October 9, 2012 at 5:53 pm #156214lilredParticipantI’m not sure he should be described as chiefly greedy – if I’m remembering correctly, he made the deal with Midas because his kingdom was failing and needed the money. Since natural resources were becoming scarce throughout the Enchanted Forest (fairy dust, magical trees, etc.), I wouldn’t be surprised if he was just trying to keep his kingdom afloat. As a leader, he was responsible for many lives and I think that’s the main reason he and the actual Prince James entered into an agreement with Midas.
I guess I keep thinking back to that one scene of King George (after his son’s death but before Rumple announces the existence of Charming). And actually went back to watch it since I feel it is the most accurate characterization of King George so far. As George is crying over James’ body, a knight is the one to remind him that the kingdom will never see the money if Midas finds out the prince is dead. Then, with tears in his eyes, George replies that “the kingdom must survive”. George is also quick to correct Rumple when James is referred to as a gift, “He was not a gift – He was my son!”
I don’t think anyone can question how much he loved his son. I’d even guess that he loved his wife, since remarrying after her death and having another baby were ‘out of the question’.
I actually think King George had been a noble, loving man at this point. But he lost everything that was important to him. Another desperate soul.
He even says the lines – “So my kingdom is lost…..I’m alone.”
His anger at Charming probably stems from part of him wanting to have replaced his son in every capacity, to have those bonds again – but knowing they’re not there or will ever be again. Also, his desperation! In the more recent events we’ve seen him acting insanely irrational – I think this might factor into ‘having nothing left to lose’.
Next week, while his past self is poisoning Snow White/going after Ruth, in Storybrooke King George is parked in his car, watching Henry and Charming play fight with swords. And I will probably cry now because of how sad and heartbreaking it will be. 😥 He's horrible in his actions, but so pathetic as well. Hate him, but also feel sorry for him 😕
All and all, I think he’ll turn out being another interesting character in the show – and kind of want to know more of his story. What was he and his wife’s fairytale story?
October 9, 2012 at 10:49 pm #156220zlfh4ParticipantI agree with you’re assesment of him, at least from what I have seen thus far, and a part of me also feels sorry for him too. From a leader’s perspective I almost felt like Charming was a bit selfish in abandoning his responsibilities to his people. Now that he is a leader I wonder if he will be able to forgive King George as Snow did Regina? At the very least I can understand his anger, maybe even a little better than Regina’s though “We Are Both” was quite enlightening.

I really want to see more of King George since he’s one of the few (If not, only) villians from the Enchanted Forest that doesn’t possess magic. I consider him to be Charming’s worst enemy and I’d really like to see these two fight at some point in Season 3.

I would like that as well. I want more of his interactions with Regina and Rumple but also…who the heck was his wife?!
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"December 20, 2013 at 8:36 pm #232826Hook’s GirlParticipantMe too. So many open questions when it comes to King George. Would love to see more interaction with EQ and why Rumple wanted to drive KG to bankrupsy. Was it just to somehow get Ella’s fairy godmother’s wand and maybe to get Charming in the mix or was there more to it.
Nothing is impossible on OUAT. Everything has a way of repeating itself. Keeper of the Keeper tread: https://oncepodcast.com/forums/topic/official-keeper-thread-3/#post-217924
December 20, 2013 at 11:28 pm #232915obisgirlParticipantwhy Rumple wanted to drive KG to bankruptcy.
I think the ultimate reason for that was so Charming and Snow could meet. They’re Emma’s parents and she’s the epitome of True Love. I am curious about George’s background, what makes him hate on true love so much? It probably has something to do with his wife, whoever she was.
