What are your thoughts on Belle becoming Lacey? Is Lacey the best thing for Rumple now that she has a pension for darkness? Will Belle return in time to save Henry, or will the relationship that saved him end up being his undoing? Would Lacey care that he wants to kill his grandson? Thoughts?
I know, now, that there is already a Belle/ Rumple relationship thread, but this is kind-of different.Moderator’s Edit: Great topic, but I’m going to move it to the character discussion section since Lacey is a new character. Thanks–RG
[adrotate group="5"]April 22, 2013 at 12:45 pm #187739RumplesGirlKeymasterLike Adam and Eddy, I believe this show is all about hope and I will remain the optimist and always believe that Belle will return before seasons end and I think a lot of that will be because Rumple chooses goodness over evil. He’s made some nice strides this season, from being open and honest to Belle in the library in the episode The Crocodile to that heart wrenching phone call in The Miller’s Daughter. I think Belle returning will probably follow Rumple refusing to kill his grandson, Henry. I also think that in that moment, when Rumple chooses not to kill Henry he will tell Lacey he can’t be with her because he wants to choose goodness of darkness, to be worthy not only of Bae and Henry and his new family but also it’s what Belle would want and he wants it for himself. That was one of the big parts I took away from Lacey that Rumple does want to be good. He needs help remembering who he is, but deep down he longs to be more like Charming than the Dark One.
It’s going to be a difficult road though, and I’ll probably be cringing while Rumple and Lacey explore darkness together (because before there can be light, there must be the dark) but Belle will be back."He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 22, 2013 at 2:45 pm #187755lilysmomParticipantI don’t like Lacey at all, and I really do not like how they have set up this relationship. Maybe something will turn around that will cause this situation to make sense.
I like the idea that Rumple will turn down Lacey but if he does that. How will we get belle back?
I have a bad feeling that Lacey is going to carry over into season 3.

She is so completely opposite from Belle, far more than any of the other curse personalities were from their original characters. I’m very curious as to what is going to happen next and how far Gold is going to slip in order to win over Lacey. I fully believe Belle will be back by the end of the season, so I’ll just hang on for the ride.
April 22, 2013 at 3:09 pm #187758RumplesGirlKeymasterIn some interviews EdR has said that the Lacey/Gold storyline is going to be a bumpy one, which to me indicates that Rumple still tries to win over Lacey by nicer means, or that he isn’t 100% satisfied having a dark Lacey when he really wants his Belle.
The conflict in Rumple is staggering. On the one hand he has a woman who looks like his True Love but also accepts his darkness, but on the other hand she’s not Belle and Rumple does want to try and be good. I agree with Angie, this is going to be an interesting ride. And I fully expect Belle to be back before seasons end, my own prediction being that she’ll be back either at the end of 21 or the very beginning of 22.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 22, 2013 at 4:52 pm #187787lmspjsiesParticipantI was really disappointed. Perhaps it is too soon to tell, but I don’t find her interesting at all. She is not particularly fun or smart as they hyped in interviews before the episode.
April 22, 2013 at 6:50 pm #187809KebParticipantI’m wondering about Lacey’s family. Does she believe she’s related to Moe? Did Belle have other family members? (In both Skin Deep and Lacey it’s hinted that she does–she sacrificed her freedom for her family, not just her father, which suggests that there could be more.) It would be really interesting to see their reactions–Moe’s especially–to Lacey, and I keep hoping they’ll do that. Her family’s important to her, and I like that they acknowledged that here (another trait Belle shares with Rumple, actually), but it does make me curious about whether she’ll ever forgive her father for what he tried to do to her. After all, being with Rumple has gotten her imprisoned, shot, amnesiaed, and Lacey’d, among other things–Moe did kind of have a point about his not being the ideal partner, even if he was just about as bad as the people doing all those things to her.
Actually, Rumple might have an interest in getting her to reconcile with her father, because that’s exactly the forgiveness he seeks from Bae. That, despite his understandable contempt of the man (though half of it was based on a falsehood).
Delicious parallels.

April 22, 2013 at 7:06 pm #187813TheWatcherParticipantI feel like I’m the only one who approves of Lacey. I thinks it’s a nice turn in the show (even if it doesn’t last long) and I think it is going to be very compelling to watch. IMO, Belle inspired alot of goodness in Rumpel and now he can have her AND be dark and evil with her approval….seems like we’re in for a ride and I can’t wait to see how it turns out.

I actually like Lacey as a storyline and character developer. I like the idea of Rumple’s goodness being stretched – now he is the one who knows right from wrong, and he is risking (as many others have pointed out) losing Lacey (and ultimately Belle) if he is “too good.” I am hoping that this arc will lead to their eventual reconciliation and Belle regaining her memories. TLK is the only way and man do I want that to happen sooner rather than later. I love seeing both RC and EdR acting their brains out – it is too delicious and will only make their eventual coming together all the more wonderful. That is what interests me – seeing the journey and the processing of both of these characters. Now they have a storyline that is integral to both characters and to an important theme of the show – choosing light over darkness. I am thrilled, excited and terrified.

Saved me a lot of typing–I agree with all of that! I also think there’s been a kind of naive attitude in Belle about evil, for until now she’d never been in the place really of being tempted to do something dark and evil (that we’d seen). So I think this journey will expand her capacity to see good even in the characters where she did not see it previously.
