For what it’s worth, while I wouldn’t be Lacey’s BFF, I totally understand and appreciate her existence as a character. I’m absolutely a fan of Rumbelle, but I confess I was worried at the end of Season 1 when the two of them were reunited so quickly (and with true memories). I thought the two would just be happy and that would be that and that frankly, it would be boring. There’s a reason we don’t hear about what happens after the “Happy ever after”. It’s generally not as exciting as the dragon slaying and treasure hunting.
After the Lacey episode, I of course made lots of violent gestures at the TV. How could the writers DO THIS to us? (I think I actually yelled out ‘Everything is ruined forever!’) But later that night, I could absolutely appreciate the story elements that Lacey brings to the picture. I was reminded of another show I really enjoyed, ‘Misfits’, where two of the characters spent the better part of a season getting together after being put through the gauntlet. It was amazing, It was engaging. And then they got together and I (and a large part of the fandom) just sort of stopped caring about them. As far as the two of them as a pair went, their story was wrapped up and without conflict it ceased to be interesting. Lacey introduces that much needed conflict to the Rumbelle dynamic.
I do believe we’ll see things turn out just fine by the end of the season. I’m sure the words of the prophecy mean Henry will have something to do with it. Maybe Gold will have to walk away from Lacey for the sake of Henry/goodness/etc and will kiss her goodbye? Maybe that kiss – a kiss that says “I love Belle enough to walk away from you, because she’d never forgive me for what you and I could become” would count as a kiss of true love? Perhaps considered a kiss between Rumple and whatever sliver of Belle might still be left within Lacey?

I agree. I think everything will be resolved by seasons end and a lot of it will have to do with Rumple’s decision regarding Henry.

In some ways, while I’m sure we’ll have a tidy (but open ended) finale, I’m finding myself wondering how everything will be wrapped up within just three episodes. I was totally not prepared for the credits to roll at the end of Lacey, I thought there had to be at least another third of an episode to go! (Maybe that was just wishful thinking on my part.)
It would be interesting to see a parallel with Gold and Regina. If things play out the way we think they will- it could make for an interesting “Yeah, I’m the Dark One- but at the end of the day I was able to choose goodness over power. And that’s something you’ve never been able to do” sort of conversation. Which would only make Regina more furious and more dangerous in the future. As if she needed more reasons to hate the big charming happy family.
P.S. Thanks! I appreciate it. It’s been a while since I’ve dabbled in fandom and I’m having a great time so far. I enjoyed your insights in the most recent podcast. Now I just have to go and listen to the rest of them… 🙂

I’m in the process of listening to all the older podcasts (since I only started listening in January) and I must say it is incredibly entertaining! I especially love hearing Regina called “The Witch” or “The Mayor” in the very early podcasts. And pretty amazing at how some people knew or theorized correctly VERY early in the process about various things. Great stuff!
I don’t think we will see a complete wrap up of the Tale of Rumbelle this season. There is so much to get through by the end of the season- I really want to see the whole process with them – gaining ground, losing ground, etc. I would like to see them dating and getting to know each other, with everything that implies 😆 But I really want to see Rumple struggle a bit with doing the right thing for the right reasons, not just to win Lacey/Belle but also for Henry and Bae.

I just trust that the writers wouldn’t leave us with a sinking ship at the end of the season if it could potentially be the end of the series. XD

It’s true that nothing has been confirmed but I think that Adam and Eddy (and really everyone) know that we are getting a season 3. Everyone’s been calling it a lock since about January. And lately whenever they’re asked questions, Adam and Eddy smile and say “that’s S3!” like they’re 100% sure.

Just as he’s struggling with his fear versus his wish to avoid hurting Henry and as he’s trying to be good for Bae and for Belle, Lacey tempts him with the thought that giving in to darkness may be the closest thing he can have to getting Belle back (as Lacey.) Great conflict for the character!

Oh yeah, I am quite confident in having a season 3, i just don’t think that Lacey will be a… loose thread by the end of this season.
Actually- what I’m thinking is that the beans will come in to play- and many, if not all the residents of Storybrooke will want to return home. But Regina knows about the beans so she’s going to do… something to the crop, and perhaps all of our characters will be split into awkward groups and shunted into various lands. If that were the case, then perhaps we’d have Belle back by the end of the season (and a Belle who is receptive to Gold) but the conflict would come from the fact that they’d be physically separated. This situation could be made more interesting if Henry does in fact cause Gold to give up his powers. A (magic) powerless Gold would make for an interesting change in the series! Not sure if I’d like it as much, but it would shake things up a little.
(Edit: apologies for getting off the topic of Lacey’s actual character.)
