I am wondering something, in all the times we have seen car crashes have they always been at the Welcome to StoryBrooke sign, or was Kathryn’s at the Leaving StoryBrooke sign?
I ask this because Emma seems to be able to pass the Leaving sign, as well as August, but when Emma tries to leave past the Welcome sign she crashes.
I think Kathryn disappeared at the Leaving sign. I also want to know why the gym teacher was trying to leave town. We still don’t know his story.
Emma only crashed in the pilot because the wolf was trying to keep her in town so that she would help the huntsman. The second time with Hansel and Gretel she didn’t crash she faked it so that she could call their dad and have him meet them.
I think the only people who can leave SB are those who are not cursed. That is why Emma, Henry, and August have all been able to leave SB, as again demonstrated in episode 20. However, if anyone else from SB who is cursed were to leave, bad things would happen (e.g. Ashley, Kathryn, Snow White, etc…). We still don’t know if Rumpel is able to leave SB, but I think he can. If he can remember his life in FTL still, then he is not under the power of the curse. If he is not cursed, he can leave SB. That may be how he procured baby Henry from Phoenix, AZ for Regina in the first place.
I think the way that Rumpel escaped the harmful effects of the curse was that he was protected by being imprisoned in the magical mines right as the curse was enacted. That could be how he escaped having his memories stolen from him.

I don’t think Rumpel can leave town.

Why fake it right at the edge of town? Could something deep down inside of Emma have believed that these kids and their father were really unable to leave Storybrooke?
Maybe. Maybe that was as far as that tow truck company would come. The dad did ask though if the car was really broken or not and Emma’s expression was no and then she said i just wanted you to see them before i go.
