1. If “Heroes and Villians” didn’t really happen because it was “fiction”, then why is the Charmings’ theft of Lily’s egg still part of the story? Isaac made that up, too. Why is that not “fiction”?
2. Can the magic hat pull the darkness out of Regina’s heart? Snow’s? Wouldn’t that be the easy way out? Shouldn’t Rumple have suffered the consequences of his actions?
3. Henry is the new author. But he broke his pen. It is the pen that lit up when he touched it, just like it did for Isaac. Does this mean that Henry is not going to even record the stories like he’s supposed to? Does that mean there are going to be no more authors? Was the apprentice OK with that?
4. Why did David need to arrest Isaac?
5. Why didn’t Lily get a happy ending in “Heroes and Villains”? It seems like the only two villains to get a happy ending were Rumple and Zelena.

This is the very question that has been bugging me. Cruella was from fictional London, a place that exists outside of time, as if it were part of a literary world created by some author. Yet, why have Cruella’s inability to kill Henry stick (a “real world” consequence) but not have anything about the AU, another work of fiction, stick? Why have a “real world” consequence the of apprentice being forced to send Lily to ALWM (“the real world”) but not have the publication of Heroes and Villains in the “real world” stick? The pen seemed to have the power not only to record events, create or alter things in a fictional AU, but also to force characters like Cruella or the apprentice to do things against their will, and then have those alterations remain in tact, even in the real world. And what about the events that happened in ALWM (i.e. the publication of Isaac’s book)? If Henry successfully undid Isaac becoming a best-selling author, then that flies in the face of what the apprentice told Henry about the pen not being able to change things that happened in the real world. It makes no sense whatsoever.
Another problem I have with the finale is to do with Isaac’s age. Just how old is he supposed to be? He was a fairly young man in the 1960s flashback, which I assumed happened in ALWM. How does he appear to be so young in the present day? Is his youthful appearance the result of him being trapped inside of the book for about 31 years? Isaac was trapped in the book about a month or so after Emma’s conception in the EF, and she is about 30 in the present day. But that still leaves about 20 years in the timeline in which Isaac appears not to have aged (1960s-1983, when the curse brought baby Emma to ALWM).

In this case it was not fiction, it was real but lack of free will for Charming and Snow, maybe.
2. Can the magic hat pull the darkness out of Regina’s heart? Snow’s? Wouldn’t that be the easy way out? Shouldn’t Rumple have suffered the consequences of his actions?
Perhaps it can only suck out the darkness that is an affliction, like the dark one’s curse, and can’t suck out darkness caused by free will of a character (or even darkness in a character caused by the author’s meddling???). I hope it is something like this. If is not, then they need to show the hat being used to suck out the darkness in everyone!
Rumple did a lot of horrible things, but I think he deserves to have the darkness removed from him and be given a second chance. The only reason why he became the Dark One was to protect his son. It was not out of greed.
3. Henry is the new author. But he broke his pen. It is the pen that lit up when he touched it, just like it did for Isaac. Does this mean that Henry is not going to even record the stories like he’s supposed to? Does that mean there are going to be no more authors? Was the apprentice OK with that
Henry will be the next author, and he will be given a new pen. The apprentice and perhaps Merlin were looking for someone who could demonstrate a complete lack of interest in power, and Henry did that by breaking the pen and refusing the job. When the apprentice saw this, he said that they had found their next author, because they needed someone who was not like Issac; they need someone who would not meddle, only record. Whether Henry still refuses the job after that is another thing.
4. Why did David need to arrest Isaac?
Because he had messed around with people’s free will. And perhaps they need to ask him more questions to find Merlin, to find out how all these worlds work etc.
Though by that logic Regina should be locked up due to her past deeds.
5. Why didn’t Lily get a happy ending in “Heroes and Villains”? It seems like the only two villains to get a happy ending were Rumple and Zelena.
Yes, it was just these two villians who got their happy ending. Rumple was interested in helping anyone else except himself and Zelena because they struck a deal.
The show didn’t make it clear enough that it was a not world where villians get their happy endings, just a world were Rumple and Zelena get their HE, and sod the rest of them, hero or villain. Bad Writing.

Question:
If Merlin is all-powerful, why does he need an author to record the history of all the realms in the first place? Can’t he just get the books to write themselves?
