    What a tangled mess!

So Cora was engaged to Leo while he was engaged to Eva. And then broke it off when Cora was revealed to be pregnant. And then Leo married Regina.

    So…

Did Cora love Leo? Was Eva in the right or in the wrong?

I don’t think Cora loved Leo. I think she saw him as her chance, just as she had with Jonathan (though with Jonathan she was a bit more naive–she still wasn’t seriously interested in him until he lied about being a prince).

I think Leo was falling for Cora, but we know he did truly love Eva after he got to know her…and Eva won his trust by, let’s face it, being honest about Cora while Cora was lying to his face. Eva was a bit of a jerk about it, but she was telling the truth.

Leo would have known that Regina was NOT the same baby because it would have been at least another 16 months before Regina was even born–and rather publicly presented to Xavier’s kingdom as Henry’s child. (Now, there may have been rumors that Henry wasn’t actually the father…and Leo would have reason to believe those rumors…but we have no reason to think that Henry wasn’t–we know Rumple wasn’t, and Henry was very loyal to Cora.)

Why did Xavier & Henry accept Cora as a bride when Eva (whom we know to have been friends) or Leo could have told them of Cora’s past? Well, Xavier didn’t care one bit for anything but power & gold. Cora brought those to him, and he even knew she’d been messing around with Rumple on the side and didn’t care one bit. So in Xavier (poor Henry never really had a say, though he liked her) wouldn’t have minded if they HAD told him. Didn’t matter, especially with the baby not actually present.

Regardless, when Leo chose to marry Regina (under serious manipulation by Cora, who killed Eva and spooked Snow’s horse), he was a) grieving for Eva’s death and b) pleased to find a woman who cared about his daughter as much as he did. And yeah, Regina loves kids. Creepily and to their detriment a lot of the time, but had Daniel not been in the equation, Regina might quite happily have been Snow’s mother.

Anyway, as weird as it is, here’s one way I view it. Leopold mainly married Regina so Snow could have a new mother figure. As for his falling out with Cora in this episode, I would guess that Regina saving Snow’s life gave him a reason to somewhat forgive Cora and give her daughter a chance.

I agree with your interpretation. But it doesn’t make it less…odd.

Well, Zelena was conceived at least 20 years before Leo proposed to Regina. Simple math dictates that. A lot happened in the intervening years. Leo did not see Regina as being like her mother–she’d just saved a child from death not knowing who it was she saved.

And even after Regina lost Daniel and turned to magic for help, Rumple said she didn’t seem like her mother.

Leo also had fairly good reason to believe that Regina was Henry’s daughter as much as Cora’s. (Fairy. With apparently lots of caveats.) Cheating on a spouse in general is bad, but cheating on a royal spouse can get you beheaded if you’re found out. And anyway, Cora dumped her heart with Rumple, so…she may not have done anything to arouse suspicion regarding Regina.

I’m just gonna assume that there was a moment off screen in Stable Boy where Leo saw Cora and she said, “Surprise Leo, remember me? Remember how I was gonna marry you and be a queen, until that wench Eva wrecked it? Well LOLZ I killed her to set it up so you’d marry my daughter instead. And if you DON’T marry my daughter, I’ll kill YOUR daughter just like I killed your wife, and don’t think I won’t because who do you think spooked Snow’s horse just now which almost resulted in her death? So, I’m sure you have an e-ring on you, so let’s go have you meet Regina. And not a word about any of this to anyone, or Snow is toast, K.”

heres a what if that i thought of during the episode: What if secretly Leopold had rethought Cora’s lying aobut the pregnancy by this time, and remembered the smart girl he had temporarily fallen in love with. What if he wanted to give peasant Regina a chance? Leopold in his one episode Fruit of Poisonous Tree, may be clueless but he does hae a good heart as we see at the beginning with him saying that he lacks nothing in his kingdom and neither do his citizens.

Magic always comes with a price, so I pay with visa.
