That was something that bothered me. Leo has a good heart. We see that in “Fruit.” And he clearly loved Eva with all his heart. I know they were engaged since birth and hadn’t met but I find it hard to believe that Leo would break off his political marriage to Eva like that in one day. What did his father say? Because normally decisions like that are up to the ruling king, not the heir.
[adrotate group="5"]"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 21, 2014 at 11:59 am #262880PriceofMagicParticipantI think the reason why Eva telling Leo about Cora’s pregnancy is presented in a bad light is because both Snow and the audience is looking at it through a modern day perspective. Having a child out of wedlock isn’t a big deal nowadays, marrying someone of a lower social background isn’t as big a deal nowadays etc, however in the past it was a big deal.
FTL of the past was a patriarchal society, one that still existed up to the curse. As Belle said in Skin Deep “there aren’t a lot of opportunities in this land for women to show what they can do.” Marrying someone of a lower class was looked down upon in high social standing families, an illegitimate child was considered to be a deal-breaker in marriages, men didn’t want to take on the responsibility of another man’s child. In kingdoms, having an illegitimate heir was considered a weakness.

1. Was she actively eavesdropping? Kinda looked that way. If she just stumbled upon the situation (and maybe she did, as she was preparing to leave), then I don’t blame her for that.
2. It feels like it was done out of spite, to help Eva get her own way. Not flattering. Still necessary to inform Leo though, I think.
3. The most damning thing against Eva, in my opinion, is not that she told Leopold, but that she apparently told half the castle. Or let the secret out to someone who did. That makes her a gossip, and tacky to boot. Leopold needed to know. The rest of the castle did not. If not simply childish, it was also a manipulative action, because Eva smearing Cora’s reputation put additional pressure on Leopold to reject Cora. I think he would have done so anyway, but Eva handled this badly (or very well. Catherine de Medici on Reign would be proud.)
Cora gets little sympathy from me, but neither does Eva. But for these reasons, not for preserving the line of succession or telling a man he’s been duped.
April 21, 2014 at 2:17 pm #262907HappyEndingsSpectatorWhere does everyone get that Eva told the whole castle about the baby? You know the father could have the bar buddies at the bar but let’s just blame Eva the good guy again after all she knew how to rule, had a contract with Leo for marriage and as usual it is everyone else fault but Cora or Regina in anything 🙁
Eva actually protected Leo’s kingdom by helping to expose Cora but what the nobody cares about that only poor poor Cora.
Note: I would be nice to get Eva’s point of view for a change. Also it would have been nice if Snow saw the whole story not just the part with her mother.
April 22, 2014 at 9:47 am #263079The Swan PrincessParticipantThis episode changes the whole history between Leo & Eva & Cora & Regina in my opinion. All this time we were sure that Leo loved Eva, but I think that he never did. He never stopped loving Cora. And Eva always felt like she needs to prove to him that he made the right choise and continued with her weird “pure child” thing. She named her daugter Snow White, she taught her how to be good, she even stopped being a brat so Snow will have a good roll model. The people from whom we learned that Leo and Eva were in love were Snow and Regina. Snow was a child so of course she would think that her parents love each other. And Regina tought that the reason Leo didn’t love her was because he still loved Eva, but I think the real reason was that she reminded him of her mother and the mistake he did by choosing Eva over her.
You know what I can't continue with the dead people brought back to life list I'm out of space in the signature and now we have an underworld arc this is to much I quit why do you bring so many people back to life OUAT WHHHYYYY
April 22, 2014 at 10:06 am #263083TheWatcherParticipantQuestion: So… If Eva is dead in this new AU…. How is Emma alive? Also, shouldn’t Cora still be alive as well?

He did love Cora (though I don’t feel like she truly loved him back–her lying to his face kind of suggested that, and after he realized he could not trust her, he lost what affection he’d had for her).
Leo fell for Cora before he met Eva, and he was already a bit flustered about marrying a woman he’d never met. Cora, he’d met, and thought he knew. Eva was an unknown that he felt forced into marrying.
Cora manipulated him slightly to get him to agree to marry her instead, and pushed for a quick wedding so she could pass Zelena off as Leo’s baby.
Eva’s actions were not kind, but I think Snow was a bit harsh on her mother–she was protecting her own interests as well as Leo’s and his kingdom’s by calling Cora out. She didn’t trick Cora–Jonathan did that. Now, when Eva tripped Cora at Henry’s ball…well, that was spiteful and downright bratty. And it’s evidently something that she did grow out of.
The results of Eva’s choice to tell on Cora are…well, most of the story so far. But she couldn’t have known that. What she knew was that Cora was lying to the man she’d been betrothed to about a pretty major thing. And it’s possible that the truth might have gotten out anyway; Jonathan knew, and wasn’t exactly the most stellar dude either.
There is nothing in this sequence of events that contradicts the idea that Leo & Eva were very much in love (or even True Loves). Leo just needed a chance to get to know Eva first–which he didn’t have until after he met and fell for Cora.
Timeline wise though, this does make me think Leo’s a little older than I estimated…

Hm. I’m a little uncomfortable with that idea because Leo would later go on and marry Cora’s daughter, Regina. It’s all ready pretty icky, but if he was really in love with Cora the whole time and them married her daughter when he couldn’t have her….eeeeeek.

I agree I will go more then eeeeek, I say it is just plain Sick!!!
April 22, 2014 at 10:50 am #263093KebParticipantI don’t think for a moment he loved Cora all that time.
I think the moment he realized she was lying to him, whatever love he had for her faded. And then he opened his heart to Eva, whom he loved so much that he didn’t make any room for Regina when he married her.
