Cora: by far my favorite villain of all. She is aggressive, pushy, she will go to any lengths to get what she wants and that is the beginnings of an amazing villain. As a young woman, she fell head over heels in love with power. She snuck into a ROYAL ball that she wasn’t invited to and when caught, she answers back to THE KING like nobody’s business! And when Eva made her fall, she EXPECTED the king to have asked HER, Cora, if she was OK. (you almost have to wonder if she really grew up in the EF with royalty and peasants or in new York where if someone made you fall, no matter who they are they’re expected to apologize and ask if you’re OK)
That’s the kind of girl she was…. A modern girl, she was, who did not belong in the caste society or in the feudal system.
And yet, even as the full blown villain who killed left and right with no remorse and no restraint, she was not a selfish villain at all. She never seeked immortality or eternal youth She wanted to share her power with her daughter, even if that meant manipulating her, abusing her, killing her true love… and when she was banished to wonderland, the way she treated Ana, 1) she learned from her mistakes and was trying a new tactic of how to push a girl towards power (maybe she was hoping to use this new technique on Regina, or maybe she just decided that she really likes Ana and was going to “adopt” her), either way, it wasn’t a selfish act because 2) she genuinely believed that she was doing Ana a favor by teaching her magic and building up her power. Also, she gave Gold the magic globe so he could find “the only person in the world who might still love him.
Armed with her new insight into “daughter manipulating” she and Regina by her side, this time, was ready to keep killing with no restraint, and she WOULD. Good thing Snow tricked Regina into killing her…
Her main motivation at first was revenge for being treated badly by the king, but later, after the king informed her that “love is weakness” she had to forgo the immediate revenge so that she can collect real power first.
She was truly evil, wicked and bad with no possibility of redemption except at the end when she realized that love would have been enough. (well, OK maybe if her heart was returned to her earlier she may have had a chance at redemption, but who knows)
In the end, the only person who Cora really hurt the most was herself…Zelena, OTOH, might not be as dangerous a villain as Cora was. See, Cora went for the kill. She was just gonna kill and kill and kill with no restraint, but Zelena is more interested in…. OK I don’t know Zelena well enough to rate her so on to the next villain
Pan: Oh, Pan is seriously the worst villain there can possibly ever be. Completely unredeemable!
He is selfish above all else. Has no interest in sharing any of his power with anyone (NONE of the lost boys were able to do ANY magic, and they were his “closest” family) and he was completely incapable of love. He was not aggressive, but when power presented itself to him he took it with no thought of any consequences. He had everything he wanted, he was not ambitious at all, but he still manipulated people and played with them for entertainment. (the Joneses for example) he collected boys, yanked them from their warm beds and loving homes, again, for no other purpose but entertainment (it’s lonely in never land) the only time he did anything for a purpose was when he was looking for the heart of the truest believer. And the purpose was? Eternal youth ; just keep doing what he was forever doing… anyone would have been long bored by this already, but he was willing to go on and on and on… by far the creepiest he really is the villain I hate the most!Regina: wow, Regina. I don’t even know if she is really a villain. But of course she is… she killed an entire village, cursed an entire world, snapped people’s necks with NO regard for the value of life, killed her OWN FATHER, who happened to be the one she loved most(!) all in the name of…. Revenge!
But just like her mother, the only person she really hurt in the end was herself, so when she realized that and (well since she still had a heart) felt sad and empty, what did she want? Eternal youth? Immortality? No, she wanted to love someone. She wanted a child… and let me remind everybody, that the love a parent feels for his or her child is the MOST unselfish love. Unlike love for a partner, where you get something back from him or her, a love for a child is one-sided for a long time. The parent gives gives gives and gives. The parent does not expect much in return, and even when the child disrespects the parent, steals credit cards, runs away, even seemingly hates the parent, it never changes the love the parent feels for that child, and the parent never stops giving…
So is Regina still a villain…?[adrotate group="5"]March 30, 2014 at 7:23 pm #256837PriceofMagicParticipantI don’t think Pan is the worst villain. Yes he was selfish, cruel to his son, and killed his best friend to get what he wanted, but he didn’t want world domination or anything like that. The only reason he and the heroes ever crossed paths was because the heart of the truest believer belonged to Henry. If Henry wasn’t involved and the heart belonged to random person number 3, Pan’s plan would’ve succeeded in Neverland and the heroes wouldn’t have batted an eyelid.
Regina doesn’t count as a villain anymore but she still wasn’t the worst villain on the show. The only threat Regina posed to anyone other than Snow was if they got between her and Snow. Regina’s primary focus was Snow. If people could be used to hurt Snow, then Regina would use them. Regina would often react emotionally rather than logically, she wouldn’t think things through before doing them eg abducting Belle. Regina had Belle but didn’t know what to do with her. Logically, it would’ve made more sense to let Belle return to Rumple and distract him rather than keeping her locked up.
Cora had the opposite problem to Regina. Without her heart, Cora wasn’t emotional therefore she operated on cold hard logic. Daniel stood between Cora and her ambition to see Regina be queen, therefore the logical thing to do would be to eliminate Daniel, nevermind the fact that Regina loved him. Cora killed a lot because when people became a problem, it was more logical to eliminate the problem rather than negotiate and risk the problem coming back to bite her. The only mistake Cora made was talking to Rumple before she tried to kill him, he stalled her for time, which enabled Snow to curse her heart and give it to Regina to pop back in.
We don’t know much about Zelena yet but it would seem she is shaping up to be as bad as Cora if not worse.
All magic comes with a price!
