I’m a tiny bit frustrated by this.
In what part of the OUAT universe does Saviorhood work like the Dark One’s Curse? It never has; Emma is a Savior because she’s the product of the truest love and because of Rumple’s machinations with the Dark Curse. Aladdin is a Savior for some vague handwave-y reason involving being a thief with a heart of gold and a “diamond in the rough” (whatever that means).
Emma’s Saviorhood and Aladdin’s Saviorhood has little in common but it does have that neither of them had to kill another Savior in order to gain their status as Savior. Gideon is motivated by his own horror of a childhood and some sort of innate goodness that fuels his desire to save others from the Black Fairy–which in and of itself is interesting and a good narrative jumping off point–but confusing the Savior mythology (even more than it already is after the introduction of Aladdin) calls Gideon’s character into question. You could theorize that Gideon’s belief that killing the Savior would make him a Savior came from the Black Fairy but if Gideon has shrugged off all of the fairy’s other lessons (like hatred and evil) then why would he follow this one?

And sure I can see given his, let’s call it ‘upbringing’, he might want to kill TBF. But why does he think he needs Savior powers to do it? And does it really make sense that Savior Light Magic is transferred through murder just like the Dark One Magic? That just doesn’t feel right.

I thought he wanted to become the savior to save the realm from the Black Fairy. It sounded like to me that he wanted to defeat the Black Fairy because of his childhood and because she was evil and tried to turn him evil also.

I think she is being set up to be the big bad so no I think she is probably like Malcolm and could have cared less about anyone but herself. From the few small flashbacks we got it looked like it was an extremely abusive childhood. Poor Gideon.
Maybe he feels that he needs to kill Emma to prove himself. Maybe he blames Emma in some way for the Black Fairy getting a hold of him and thinks if he kills this “savior” he will actually be a savior for the other realm. I mean I guess it could all be a point of view issue. Gideon thinks that Emma is actually a villain that allowed the Black Fairy to take him away,torture him, and spread her evil?

And what exactly was TBFs motivation in all of this? I hope we get some answers at some point.

What bothers me about this plan is this: if you can gain Savior powers by killing a Savior, why didn’t Cora do that instead of trying to kill Rumple in S2? Why didn’t Rumple try to kill Emma throughout the entire show? How does something this big not come up sooner?
(Yes, I know why it didn’t, but I’m hoping for an in-universe reason.)
