Magical beings, when granted released from the Sorcerer’s hat, are marked with a star. Their star disappears from the box, and is transferred to the person. Like a brand. They are branded by the sorcerer and sent to the land without magic.
Now that you mention it, the star mark on Lily’s arm does look like it could have something to do with the fantasia hat.
Or I’m going with Sorcerors descendant.
I like this. We could go one step further and say Lily is the sorcerer, or rather the sorceress. We’ve no idea how old Lily is. She could’ve used magic to appear young. Remember how old the Apprentice looked? Maybe Lily stole his youth, and made him old and herself young.
In support of this theory are some key points: (1) Lily’s star mark (2) the stars on the sorcerer’s hat (3) The reference Lily made to Harry Potter, a well-known wizard. (4) Emma said “I know I’m not sorceress of the year.”
Experience tells me that when either Emma or Henry say such important key words early on in the season, they have a tendency to have predictive power. (e.g. Henry, pilot episode said, “I’m not Pinocchio!” and Emma in Tallahassee said, “Like where, Neverland?”)

I dont’t like her mentioning Harry Potter. The first book was released in 1997 if I remember right. Therefore Harry Potter has not been as famous as today. But her line suggested that everybody shoul know it. And for Emma, a kid who run away it is very unlikley to know Harry Potter in this time at all.
Sorry, but it really bothered me.
It’s interesting that she mentioned Harry Potter, since Lily is also the name of Harry Potter’s mother! 😎

Could Lily be the black fairy? Her star was black plus blue fairy is known as blue Star.
This was the exact though I had as soon as I saw Lily and the star mark. I’m not sure why I thought this but The Black Fairy has been mentioned at least twice now and her wand was mentioned too also this was in context with the Blue Fairy and I think Rumple too if memory serves well. Also since the books author is being hunted down it seems like many have suggested before that it is like the end so why can Black Fairy not be brought in now, maybe this has some relation to the book – The author and Black Fairy
Maybe the star is the mark of evil or something and after being rejected by Emma the ”evilness” inside Lily is activated and she realises she has magic. Maybe Blue found her and knows Lily and her story. What if Lily was taught the ways of being a fairy and had access to their magic and knowledge but is in fact a human being and because of this turned away from Blue and the others, I’m reminded here of a version of Snow White where all the dwarves were dwarf sized but one was tall as a human would be or think of Elf.

There’s one crack theory about Lily that I don’t believe has popped up in this thread yet. I know people won’t be big fans of this theory, but it’s still an interesting theory to consider as a possibility. And with this show, I certainly wouldn’t put it past the writers to do this sort of plot twist. This theory is that Lily is Regina and Robin Hood’s daughter, who they lost via a time portal. A reason for this being that Lily’s actress looks somewhat like a younger version of Regina. Plus, the tattoo might be a nod to Robin Hood, as he too has an iconic tattoo of his own. Also, if this is true, then Regina will get to experience the same thing Snow and Charming went through with Emma. While I would personally be annoyed with yet more time traveling and family plot twists, at the same time I like the idea of Regina finally getting to put herself in the Charmings’ shoes. Perhaps Regina would even finally start regretting her past actions and move forward on her road to redemption.

Only way that would happen without resorting to timey wimey stuff would be if Will and Anastasia had an illegitimate child that was separated from them prior to leaving for Wonderland, but even then I raise my eyebrow. I should clarify that I myself didn’t come up with that OQ offspring theory, but rather I heard it elsewhere and thought I should share it just because we never know with this dang show.

Hmmm…I read a theory that Lily was possibly Regina and Daniel’s daughter! But her being Robin and Regina’s daughter, I can dig that scenario too!

WHAT IF… Regina actually did go in that bar all those years ago and met Robin Hood. They were happy, they had a daughter…but Rumplestiltskin was not happy because he needed Regina to cast the curse. So he made a deal with the Snow Queen to erase Regina and Robin Hood’s memories of ever meeting each other… Regina would believe she never went into the bar, Robin Hood would eventually meed Marian, and life would go on as we had seen. The Snow Queen would have a “family” (Regina’s and Robin Hood’s daughter) as she always wanted. Not sure how they both ended up in our world… but I presume it has something to do with the Snow Queen’s abilities. I know – crack theory…
Did anyone else think that perhaps Lily’s family is abusive/neglectful? She did seem extremely upset when her father found them. Children from abusive neglected homes don’t always feel safe telling people about the abuse/neglect.
It could be that she thought Emma was a way out of her situation.
