ParticipantSometimes saying something isn’t going to happen CAN be a spoiler. If somebody wants to theorize that something is possible and then everybody is saying no it’s not because they said it’s not gonna happen it’s frustrating. It also messes up theories that prove true by saying it must be wrong because we were told this isn’t gonna happen and sometimes they’re sneaky we weren't gonna see Henry's dad last year but we did see Bae; we're not supposed to see Peter Pan this year but it doesn't rule out he's someone we've already met etc, just won't be identified in such terms. Nothing more frustrating than having to repeatedly explain this is how they tease stuff and it’s not definitive proof that a theory is wrong. Rule nothing out until absolutely necessary!
That being said regarding the BF thing I think they might have gotten a kick out of everybody assuming she was bad but they eventually got to the point where they felt like they needed to defend her: I remember an official podcast where they said she was good and she was mother superior because it put her in a position where she was trying to help people still and couldn't and that was her curse – something along those lines
It’s why if you see me in the live-chats I get so frustrated with people just saying “that’s not gonna happen” whether they know it or not just because they don’t like the theory. No need to kill it off for the rest of the people that want to theorize. (Sometimes they do in fact know because they see more spoilers than I do but in that case they really shouldn’t say anything cause I can see where definitively saying they’ve said it’s not gonna happen is a spoiler to some and sometimes the word spoiler doesn’t mean telling, it literally means ruin that type of fun of guessing without knowing anything other than what we’ve seen so far. It’s a very fine line and that goes for questions answered on twitter as well.)
Back to ratings: hopefully having a chance to live-tweet with some of the cast and writers draws in ratings. I know I rewatched the DVR when the west coast aired just to see what they were saying (and the actors are fun to watch interact, even on twitter) in order to make sense of their comments so that hopefully helped with not only live-viewing but DVR numbers as well (at least for those who saw it in earlier time zones). I haven’t seen adjusted numbers for this episode but I really hope that was the case.

We’re now tied with Amazing Race in ratings share, even if they had more viewers than us, but our viewership did go up from last week. By this time next week, taking the 7 day views into account, the total viewership should be about 10 million and we’ll probably get at least 2.8 in ratings share. I can us getting a boast with this next episode too since deaths tends to draw in viewers, they want to see what happens next.

I can understand that, but at the same time there are clearly many questions that will likely remained unanswered by the show itself. In order to get additional trivia you sometimes have no choice but to get the answer from the writers outside the show. Sometimes knowing these questions that the show will likely never answer itself can make the theories more fun and can lead to the construction of new ones. There’s also a difference between the types of answers the writers say. Stuff like “Rumple is not Regina’s father” and the BF thing are not in the same league as answers that are more carefully worded and teased like we won't see Peter Pan this Season. On a similar note, I’m sure people who are complete spoilerphobes are confused about why Rumple wouldn't remember who he was if he had crossed the town line without the shawl, since the show itself never directly explained that hearing Emma's name made him remember. Yes it was somewhat implied, but I feel it wasn't clear enough and I personally would have assumed he simply always remembered had I not heard from Adam and Eddy.
Back on the topic of ratings, TVByTheNumbers made an error and Amazing Race actually got a bump to a 2.4, so it still beat Once by a tenth. I too think more live tweeting while an episode airs would be a good idea to boost ratings. Though, it doesn’t always work. Jorge Garcia live tweeted during “Tiny”, and that episode had at the time broke the record for the lowest rated episode of the series. More prolific members of the cast would likely work better in the long run.

ABC: “Once Upon a Time” tops with Women
By RBR-TVBR on Mar, 11 2013 with Comments 0
Note: On the first Sunday of Daylight Saving Time, overall TV usage declined notably during the opening hours of the night.
Week to week Adult 18-49 PUTs were off -6% during the 7 o’clock hour and down -7% in the 8 o’clock hour.
Spiking over its Adult 18-49 lead-in (+57%) 8pm, ABC’s Once Upon a Time ran neck-and-neck with CBS’ Amazing Race for the lead in the hour, closing the gap week to week to pace within 1-tenth of a rating point.
The ABC drama once again won its time slot with key Women (W18-34/W18-49) to stand as Sunday’s top-rated broadcast series.
Despite facing declining viewing levels week to week, Once Upon a Time was up 5% over its week-ago Fast Affiliate Adult 18-49 number. The show was also up week to week in Total Viewers (+1%), Adults 18-34 (+6%) and Kids 2-11 (+11%).
Up 11% in Adults 18-49 from its last telecast 3 weeks ago before The Oscars, ABC’s Revenge returned with strong lead-in retention (91%), beating the first hour of NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice by 25% and CBS’ The Good Wife by 33% during the 9 o’clock hour. In addition, the sophomore drama made ABC the #1 broadcaster in the hour with Adults 25-54 and across all key Women demos. Building for its 2nd airing in Total Viewers (+13%) and Adults 18-49 (+11%), “Revenge” posted its best numbers since the beginning of January – since 1/6/13. Season to date, Revenge has gained 21% in Adults 18-49 over the same point in its freshman season.
During the 10 o’clock hour, ABC’s Red Widow retained 80% of its week ago 2-hour series debut in Adults 18-49. Based on the first 3 days of TV playback (Live + 3 Day Ratings), Red Widow (on 3/3/13 from 9-11pm) grew over its Live +Same Day numbers by 1.8 million viewers (7.1 million to 8.9 million) and by 27% in Adults 18-49 (1.5 rating to a 1.9 rating).

KeymasterThose ratings Nonnie posted are from last week, the Queen is Dead. We gained viewers this week.

ARG! That’s sad, but our ratings share will go up at the end of the viewing week, as will our overall numbers.
So Myril, if I’m reading this graph right, there was a pretty big spike between 8-10:00 pm which is when the East and West coast would have viewed OUaT, yes?"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"March 12, 2013 at 10:22 pm #179454MatthewPaul
ModeratorIf you click the tab “Broadcast Only” and then “Episodes”, it shows Once in the number 1 spot for the night in terms of broadcast scripted TV shows. I think when twitter is calculated into the Nielsen ratings starting this Fall, it will be a huge factor in Once’s favor. The current Nielsen sample just doesn’t seem to reflect the real viewers tuning in well enough. 🙂

*happy dance*
The Nielsen seems to be a horrible way to calculate this stuff and I’m glad they’re making some changes.
I’m also glad I have fellow Oncers here to freak out with every Monday after we get our ratings. I think we’re actually doing quite well. We may never get 11 million live viewers again, but the fact that over the course of a week between 9-10 million view the show has got to be a good thing."He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"March 12, 2013 at 10:27 pm #179459MysteryKat25
ParticipantOoo thanks for the twitter numbers Nonnie!
I never know how that stuff all works, I just know I’d tweet about it more if they hadn’t chosen such a spoilery hashtag! I’d hope people would be away from their computers / phones but I know this week especially the twitter stuff was going on for hoursss ahead of time with last minute teases and such so people were still spoiled I bet (some don’t like titles and promos, let along seeing anything tagged OUAT mention #OneWillDie!)
Hopefully they use better ones in the future so that more people DO get involved in as non-spoilery a way as possible. I’d like to think that in this day and age they’d take twitter stuff into account somewhat (not everybody uses it obviously but it should count for something) and frankly the Nielson boxes are outdated and they know this, they just haven’t found a way to change it. They look at DVR numbers and I’m sure at the hulu / abc.com numbers too more than likely, it’s just still a very rough system and it always looks so dire when you see the ratings! I’m pretty sure more people watch than they are aware of: especially if families are watching together for a show like Once Upon A Time.
Ooo are they changing things this fall?? I hadn’t heard about that…in that case they better have some awesome hashtags that relate but aren’t spoilery (Fringe was awesome at that, we used them but never knew what they meant til the episode aired).
To think of all the wonderful shows that may have survived instead of the trash they’re replaced with all because of an outdated system *sigh*. Here’s hoping it skyrockets OUAT ratings in the future!
