This rendition of the LOST BOYS seem more LORD OF THE FLIES then the Disney version. I am assuming H&K are students of literature and are bring in references to various past stories where ever they fit….

    What do you think ???

Jane Espenson, one of the writers has said that the keep LOTF in their head while writing. There are obvious parallels.

I definitely got that feeling from this episode, especially the scene where they were all chanting “Shoot, shoot…” after Pan handed Henry the crossbow. I suspect we will see more parallels as the story develops.  In fact, I bet it may be a very big part of Pan’s plans for Henry.

Yes I think so too. Who would Henry be from Lord of the Flies? Ralph perhabs..

I love that story, hope to see lots of references to it.

We had a long discussion somewhere over the summer and yes, LOTF was brought up by many of us.  I also thought to some extent it might echo “The Most Dangerous Game” that short story, and the writers have explicitly mentioned “Heart of Darkness” as well, with Pan being the guy who got lost in primitive/tribal culture,  like Kurtz.  Kurtz is worshiped as a Demi-God, and Pan seems to be one too.

I love fairytales, but I like the echoes of classic and more substantive stories as well.  LOTF is one that haunts you, but I am still drawn to more happy stories.

And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?” -- Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass

Jane Espenson tweeted that “Lord of the Flies” were brought to mind when writing the Lost Boy scenes. So, that novel is a definite influence on Once’s version of devious teenage boys.
