March 5, 2013 at 10:01 pm #177430WickedRegalParticipantPersonally, I do not support BugQueen, or HopperQueen! I mean come on guys, really, stick Regina with the bug, while everyone else has their knight in shining armor! Preferably, on the real note, I prefer an OC (New Character) for Regina! I can’t believe people are suggesting this, they have two sessions, and people on board! Bring Daniel back from the grave, don’t stick a QUEEN with a BUG! Emma has a higher chance, as her and Archie have had more scenes! I’m mortified at the mere thought! Snow has David a prince, Emma has Captain Hook and Neal, both pro at the sword! Ruby might have Whale, a doctor! But we stick one of the hottest women, Queen Regina with an original form cricket, who loves an umbrella, and is a therapist, with a name like Archie! I Love Jiminy Cricket, but dears, CricketQueen is just wrong! I’d prefer her with Neal before that!

March 5, 2013 at 10:27 pm #177438GaultheriaParticipantRegina needs to love herself. I don’t mean anything suggestive, just that she feels bitter about everything, including, I think, all of the choices she’s made in her adult life, and she needs to stop letting that rule her.

She was only the Queen, because she married Snow’s father. Though she did appear to be at least some kind of “noble” before that, she was happy with a stable boy herself. Still, I see your point, that there’s a kind of glamor to Regina that maybe doesn’t fit with Archie’s very plain personality.
I also would prefer a new character, especially a very interesting, famous tale one. Though I’m not sure what type…someone who is also a villain? An Anti-hero? She rejected the Genie, and didn’t fall for Leopold.
I’m trying to think of characters who might have interesting stories to twist too….
1) Merlin
2) Dracula
3) Headless Horseman
4)Van HelsingOr if they can make Jack into Jacqueline, why not do the reverse….like Alice becomes Alex or something.

Yes, this! She’s gotta learn to love herself again, before she can honestly, genuinely love Henry, and she’s gotta accomplish that before she can embark on a romantic relationship that can be stable.
She and Hook do have a lot in common, with the way they lost their previous loves, but I think that because they both come from that same, damaged place, that wouldn’t be a basis for a healthy relationship for either of them.
No matter how Archie may help her sort out all of her crap, I still think she’d never look at him in a romantic sense.

4)Van HelsingI’m kinda digging the Van Helsing idea! Regina needs someone strong willed, and someone who uses their power for the right reasons. Someone like that would help to support her in being a good person, but would also understand the mindset of where she comes from. Here’s a little blurb from the wikipedia page on Van Helsing that describes his character:
He is a seemingly arbitrary man, this is because he knows what he is talking about better than any one else. He is a philosopher and a metaphysician, and one of the most advanced scientists of his day, and he has, I believe, an absolutely open mind. This, with an iron nerve, a temper of the ice-brook, and indomitable resolution, self-command, and toleration exalted from virtues to blessings, and the kindliest and truest heart that beats, these form his equipment for the noble work that he is doing for mankind, work both in theory and practice, for his views are as wide as his all-embracing sympathy
IMO, that sounds like the kinda man Regina needs.
Off the top of my head, the other suggestion I’d have for a character who might be a good match for her would be Robin Hood. They’re similar in that they both use their skills to take from others. The difference is, Robin did it with better intentions than Regina. She thinks that the purpose of being in a position of power is to gain, gain, gain for your own purposes and to feed your own ego. He could make her see that you can still be powerful, and actually do some good with it for other people. Expecting Regina to completely relinquish her position and power is unrealistic, but she’s totally capable of a change of focus, because she did originally have a generous heart, many years ago.
I don't recall if the casting call for who we're pretty positive will be Robin Hood was for a potentially recurring role, or just a one shot deal. If he's got a history of going up against Rumple, that could be a common ground that could kickstart a camaraderie between him and Regina, which could develop into more if they plan to keep the character around long term.

I agree with what you’ve said, and in particular, this bit about Regina needing to learn that she doesn’t have to hurt others to be powerful or happy, or to “win”. .She can’t turn into someone who’s all “others first, making a noble sacrifice,” because she wouldn’t be the same character if she changed that much. But she isn’t ready yet, I think, for a love interest. She has to wrap up things with her mother first and reject the philosophy that love is weakness and all that matters is power.
I also like Robin Hood…but as you said, if the writers have cast someone already, especially with a 1 shot dead-end plot in mind, it sort of uses up the character, but maybe they have in mind exactly the same thing, and the character is intended as a potential love interest….. I just am not sure Regina is ready at this point in the story

March 10, 2013 at 1:48 am #178615MysteryKat25ParticipantIf we’re on the Archie – Regina train that’s the first time I’ve heard it be called BugQueen though it does make me laugh! I’ve always heard it as EvilCricket but don’t know of any “official” one being used. Would certainly be interesting though. Archie is the one she’s opened up to the most, though I think she’s a bit too evil at the moment for it to happen anytime soon.
The Robin Hood idea is very interesting! Can’t wait to actually see the character to see what direction it goes in but I like your thinking Phee!
