I…. I like it… Hmmm.. Perhaps he tried to trick Rump out of a deal. The wizard is a con man afterall.

Lumiere said he made deal with Rump and didnt hold up his end of the bargain. So being a candle person was his punishment. If this is true, and he was the wizard, it totes explains why Zelena knows Lumiere.

Lumiere may be the wizard but part of your logic is wrong. Lumiere later recants and says that Zeleena the wicked wicked witch turned him to candlestick. However he could still be the wizard  also he mentionned how desperate Belle and baelfire were, and that links up with desperate souls. I think the wizard of oz would know how to recognize a desperate soul: scarecrow’s brain, lion’s courage, tinman’s heart, dortothy’s home were postponed until their end of the deal was done.

There was a heavy dose of Lucifer symbolism, too.

There is diffidently  some Faustian overtones with both this version of Lumiere and The Dark One in general. (Flames/Shady deals, Deception, disgrace and/or fallen from grace.) Impishness.

Instantly had that thought of The Wizard of Oz, aka former con man and magician Oscar Zoroaster Phadrig Isaac Norman Henkle Emmannuel Ambroise Diggs.

Now when hearing Lumiere as name just can’t help it and always think of the Lumiere Brothers, who were among the first filmmakers. Another pioneer of film was Georges Méliès (if you watched the 2011 movie Hugo you might have heard about him). Méliès was called by Charles Chaplin “alchemist of light”, by others a cinemagician. Before Méliès turned to filming he had been a professional stage illusionist / magician. Yeah, odd what train of thoughts sometimes happens when watching a trivial TV show like OUaT 😉

    ¯\_(?????? ?)_/¯
