KeymasterIs she bringing magic back to our world? Trying to resurrect her people?
My guess–and it’s really only that–is that she is bringing magic to our world but she also wants to wipe out all non-magic users because she sees them as weeds in her garden.
I really don’t understand what Facilier’s place is in all this. It would be one thing if he somehow represented the human side of this story and maybe they’re trying to make him Gothel’s cosmic equal but where she represents Nature he represents Humanity because of his connection to Death and the “other side.” But all of that requires a lot of imaginative stretching. At this point, Facilier feels like so much narrative bloat. And why does he think that Gothel wants the dagger? How do these two even know about each other?
Also, Gothel literally lived in a land with magic for thousands of years (The EF 2.0) but still wants to take over this world…? Why..? Is it just because this was her original home?

ParticipantDon’t forget that moment with the fountain.
Remind me….what moment with what fountain?

ParticipantI suspect Gothel is just an evil sorceress who went even more insane after being trapped in her own tower, where she concocted a power fantasy to compensate for her helplessness, and that the other members of her coven feel really uncomfortable whenever she reminisces about her imaginary old days as a wood nymph.

KeymasterHere’s another question that has been bothering me: how did Gothel kill everyone in less than a night? We know she killed all the people at the ball with either tree roots or her Stank Plant and we know it happened in one night because her mud stained clothing doesn’t change from the ball to when she and Seraphina leave the grove via bean hole, but what about the lives of everyone else in the world? Unless the writers are trying to say that the only inhabitants of planet Earth thousands of years ago were these snooty ball-gown-wearing people???

ParticipantNone of it made any sense. Why not just make Goethel some kind of Nymph and then maybe because she isn’t human she views us as less then her or as pets or vermin or something. She could be like The Master in Doctor Who. Why go through this nonsense with the ball gowns and the murderous blond chick like they were trying to make us feel sorry for Goethel? I really don’t feel bad for her and frankly I found it hard to believe that ball gown gal was a real person. It just didn’t work.
The twist (The Land Without Magic is actually, gasp… Goethel’s home realm!) was a genuine surprise. But that doesn’t make it a good twist. While the idea that our world (or realm) was once just one of many magical realms strung together somehow until our world went dark without magic and we were cut off from the rest of them …hey it’s kind of interesting. But the story really fell flat for me long before that even came up.

I would be so much better with the idea if they had been leading up to this for years not just in a one-off flashback like “surprise!”
This sort of revelation is best served up after years of hints and teases and clues.

ParticipantI’m still a bit lost on how a hundred or so human army could wipe out an entire magical race….that’s like saying our world could defeat Harry Potter’s when one simple curse could annihilate someone.

Volcano god minions versus tree god minions — volcano god wins. This is like Fantasia. Yeah, we already saw Chernobog, and he wasn’t that impressive, but maybe that one was just a baby.

All year long, cursed Henry has been trying to dream up new and ever-more-spectacular plots for his next book, unaware that he needs to be really, really careful about what he writes because it all comes true.

ParticipantWhat about when Gothel touched the fountain looking thing in her tree nymph world at the end before she went in the portal with her coven sister. They sort of did a weird flashforward thing that made it seem to me like they were suggesting the well from HH was THAT fountain. So, did she create Hyperion Heights with the well being where it all started for in her tree nymph home? Or am I just completely off base here?
I too thought that Facilier and Gothel must have known each other prior and yet they still have not shared any screen time together, and somehow he knows she wants the dagger. I am getting the idea that the line when he said that may get ignored bc it doesn’t seem like she wants his dagger at all. These two villains could have been fun parallels with each other, with him representing humanity and what not but it’s too late for that. I’m sticking to Facilier being the key to Rumple reuniting with Belle. I think the fact that we don’t know if he is truly a good guy or bad guy is kind of intriguing and it makes me really want them to close him out well and not have him be a side show with no importance at all. I love the actor playing him as well. They are still keeping his motives close to the chest. We have to get them at some point right? I refuse to believe we won’t and if we don’t, I riot.
