This is a totally off-the-wall theory, but I wonder if Rumpelstiltksin is trying to bring back Baelfire from the afterlife.
I think this is possible, I think Baelfire is already dead because he went to a land without magic centuries before the dark curse was enacted. At the very least, he’s going to be an adult.
Maybe but the past few episodes showed us that realm jumping is possible across space AND time. So Bae could have ended up in our world the same time as Emma and Pinocchio.

How MORAL will they remain? Will they succumb to the power and also become bullying? and power mad? Will they abuse their powers? Will they seek revenge?
Who would you like to see get MAGIC ?
Who would you like to see be denied Magic?.Nonnie.

I guess once I realized the curse was all about finding Bae, and a “designer curse” if you will, that Rumpel somehow figured out an ingredient to have the curse take him to the same time and place as Bae. Granted it has been 28 years since they arrived in our world, so I am guessing that Bae might be in his early 40’s, 14 years older than Emma. If you go with the Bae is Henry’s father theory that would make him about 31 and Emma 17 when she got pregnant with Henry. He definitely could have been married.

I’m not so sure that it’s love that Belle feels for Rumpel.
If she didn’t really love him, her kiss wouldn’t have begun breaking the Dark One curse.
Now that a new kind of magic has been created, the old rules of magic may no longer apply. And if this new magic really is, as Rumple believes, the power of true love, and if it really is the most powerful force, a curse is no longer needed. To get this new magic to work, surely no killing would be involved; surely there’s no place for such evil acts in a true-love spell (although I suppose Regina will have to find some way to corrupt this new magic, or she just wouldn’t be Regina.)

Oh no, let it not be so! I’m sure a lot of the fandom would go into permanent mourning. But we ‘ve seen no evidence that he ‘s dead, just that he doesn’t seem to be in SB and Gold hasn’t been able to leave to search for him–yet. Gold doesn’t think he ‘s dead; otherwise he wouldn’t have fallen for August’s scam.
I’m guessing Gold’s going to use this magic to locate Bae and transport himself there, after which he’ll retire to Florida with his now-intact family and spend the rest of his years sipping mimosas on the beach in his gold speedos.

So, um, real estate is cheap in Florida these days. Maybe we could all pool our fangirl pennies and purchase a nearby condo . . . and several pairs of binoculars??? 😉
May 16, 2012 at 1:02 am #146997a_desperate_soulParticipantPlease, no more talk of Baelfire being dead. I love that little guy. 😥 He really touched my heart in “Desperate Souls” and “The Return.” I loved his bravery and common sense.

He could have popped out of the bean vortex when Emma was 14 so they could be the same age. He could be any age. I actually think it would seem bizarre if Bae popped out at the same time, but i guess it is possible.

What if at the end of all of this Bae did go to a land without magic, grew up as a normal person, had a nice normal life, married and had children, and then died after a normal happy life? Meanwhile Rumple has gone to all of these extreme measures and been obsessed for years thinking he can find him only to discover that he died years ago and not even his magic can bring him back (and he would ultimately discover that he shouldn’t bring him back because he lived a happy normal life without him).
We’ve always looked at Rumple as someone who was desparately trying to “find” his son out of guilt vs. someone who is so dysfunctional that he hasn’t been able to accept that he is gone after hundreds of years. Kind of like how, as horrible as it is, parents who lose children are never the same but somehow have to find a way to continue to live their lives. They don’t destroy everyone else’s lives too.
It would just be an interesting scenario to have all of this be for nothing and for that to be the way Rumple has to learn his lesson and for that to be the way he is redeemed – to choose NOT to use magic to bring Bae back. To me that would be the most powerful and non-cowardly act he could commit – it would show true strength of character and selflessness.
