So, late night ponderings and watching of the Finale led me to this thought…. why do they keep mentioning how unpredictable magic is in our world?
Was is just to emphasize that Henry could very much die and not just be in an eternal sleep? Are fans being hinted towards a foreshadowing of plot in the future?
I’ve mentioned this in another thread, but what happens if the darked ones powers actually start to kill Rumpelstilskin in our world? How about the dagger having a different set of rules? Will Regina’s powers be the same?
I can see many “deasl” or “powers” beginning to backfire or cause something either epic, or extremely tragic in the future if ones powers become unpredictable. 😮

And I admit most of the time I am pleasantly surprised at what they have come up with. So trying to predict what has happened or will happen to SB and the people/characters in it, is something I am trying to hang on to loosely. I am wondering if Rumpel, as calculating as he is, really understands what he is doing. Regina made it pretty clear to Emma that magic used in this world is unpredictable, so I am interested to see how that plays out this next season, made from true love or not. He seems to have placed his “ducks in order” so to speak in FTL before coming to this world in an effort to be ready, but we shall see if he was truly prepared for every contingency.

Now that there is magic in SB, the way things play out will be very interesting. I think that only Rumpel will know the ins and outs of how to bend the power to his will, and that Regina will struggle to make sense of this new magic. Since Rumpel is the one who bottled it, he is the one who can do ANYTHING: perhaps even bring people back to life. The reason I think so is because this was clearly a limit to magic in FTL, even to dark magic. Now, however, Rumpel seems to be playing by his own rules and there don’t seem to be the same restraints as there were in FTL. I think a large part of the plot next season will be Emma and her crew trying to take on Rumpel and Regina and trying to understand this new magic. However, I think the unpredictable nature of this new magic could have dire consequences for Rumpel. It isn’t clear exactly, but Rumpel could lose Belle again since all magic comes with a price. I hope not, since magic created from true love could also have good outcomes, but there seems to be a bad undertone going into season 2.

The person that loves stories within me sometimes wants tragedy because it’s usually a key ingredient for a good story, but at the same time, I just want to see people live happily ever after.
Someone mentioned that what if the smoked cleared and some people were missing?! Ugh… one of them would probably be Belle, possibly Henry. hah

May 27, 2012 at 2:10 pm #147812hjbauParticipantI think that they were talking about the fact that Henry could die, but also who really knows what will happen now that the bottle of love has been placed in the well. There should be no bringing back people from the dead. That is just never a good way to go for a show like this, in my opinion.
I don’t think they should have it where just the evil side has magic though. I think that causes way too many complications for how there enough peace in town to still be able to do the character driven moments of the show. We will see. They can go so many places that it is very unclear at this point.
May 27, 2012 at 2:13 pm #147814eternalflameParticipantI think the main factor in making the new magic work is that you have to have true love in your life. Emma has that with Henry, Snow has Charming, and Rumpel has Belle and Bae. Regina is the only one who will probably not be able to use it. All the people she loved are dead. I think this new magic won’t require much skill or effort because the main ingredient is love.

That’s a very interesting theory. You may be right. Love is the most power magic in the world, but in order to bottle it, you need to have two lovers. And given the fact that magic is unpredictable in this world, it may not be quite as difficult as it was in Fairytale land. In Fairytale land, most of the magic was being used by fairies, warlocks or witches. But magic in this world is a lot more subtle. We’ve already seen that with Emma. We’ve seen her magic influence people, but we never actually see her make an effort to make her magic work. So, true love may be the same way. You don’t have to be a power witch to make it work. All you need is true love.
I find it delightfully ironic that Regina will be the only one in Storybrooke who won’t be able to use it.
May 27, 2012 at 2:34 pm #147824hjbauParticipantWell Regina loves Henry. I don’t think true love should be what causes people to use the magic. And i don’t really want people just throwing fireballs around town right now. That seems a bit much. And honestly i want them to keep the CGI out of Storybrooke as much as they can because it is just terrible.

I think you might be onto something. It was magic created from true that Rumpel released into the world. And in order to have true love, you need to have someone who you love dearly. We saw that in Heart of Darkness when Rumpel made the true love potion from Snow and Charming. You can’t make the magic of true love work without the main ingredient: LOVE!!! 😆 So, I think that will be the big twist in season 2.
