Okay this is a point I have never understood about these characters. They always think that they can fight the magic users with regular weapons like swords and guns. That is ridiculous! Charming got thrown outside the building and knocked out for a few minutes and Neal and Emma just got teleported into the woods. DUH! HELLO! OF COURSE!
Why do they bother?!
Snow didn’t bother. She found a plan that would work–trickery (plus a little magic). Actually, I think she’s always known she would need magic. Remember the dark fairy dust she was saving for Regina? But then you have the wedding crashing scene in the pilot and she pulls out Charming’s sword which again ends up completely ineffectual because she can teleport. DUHHH. Idiots!!!
The dwarves are just as bad about this. What on Earth does Leroy think they can do against a magic user?! He keeps saying he’s going to protect the town/the bean field from them. Yeah, right. Frankly, Regina or Cora could’ve just turned them into bugs without having to use any dark fairy dust and squashed them!
So, I like that the sword users failed so obviously but I don’t like that they’re surely not going to learn from it. I mean, they haven’t so far.

This.
It’s always bothered me a little bit too. But if the magic users killed off the main characters so easily then we wouldn’t have a TV show. It’s for the sake of the fiction the “good guys” are kept alive.
Pretty much every James Bond 007 movie suffers from this meme. (The first Austin Powers movie had a great spoof of this meme. 😆 )
This link kinda explains it a little. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/InvincibleHero
EDIT: Wait, didn’t both Snow and Charming have some kind of protection spell placed on them so that Regina could never harm them? I’m curious how Regina was able to hurl David/Charming out of the store so easily. Is that protection spell worn off? I really need to watch these episodes more carefully.

March 11, 2013 at 3:35 pm #179010MyrilParticipantIf they would act all rational they should see that there is no point at all, sword or whatever silly weapon they use, to win a fight against such powerful magic, so why don’t they surrender? 😉 😈
¯\_(?????? ?)_/¯
March 11, 2013 at 4:00 pm #179024DemiletoParticipantHas any magic user other than Rumplestiltskin ever turned someone into a bug or rose, though? I recall only him doing such a thing, maybe that’s a Dark One exclusive power.

Rumple fashioned a protection spell for Snow White and Prince Charming so that Regina couldn’t harm them in the EF, but that doesn’t mean she couldn’t harm them in another world. That was Rumple’s entire angle; he wanted to motivate Regina to cast the dark curse so that everyone would be transported to a land without magic, where she can now harm Snow&Co. again.

Not that I recall. But we’ve seen Regina teleport people. She could easily teleport someone 2000 feet above ground and let them fall to their death. Or teleport them inside a solid wall. Or 2000 feet under ground. Just lots and lots of truly fun things you can do with teleportation. (This is what years and years of playing dungeons and dragons has taught me.)

Yes! Thank you slurpeez, I remember now.

I don’t want them to surrender. I’m just tired of their POSTURING. They always act like they don’t even KNOW that their swords are useless. They always seem to think, “This time, it’ll work!” And that’s just stupid.

Prince Charming kept saying, “let justice take it’s course” and then went around waving a sword, but Snow is the only one with the gumption to do what needed to be done. She fought magic with magic, which saved her and her family. Prince Charming, though brave and admirable, needs to think through his strategy. Perhaps if he’d recruited the fairies, he could have overpowered Regina and Cora long enough to let justice, rather than vengeance, rule. Yet, in Snow’s eyes, she was justified in using dark magic to defeat the same dark evil who stole her parents from her. She’ll pay the price, of course, but just maybe it was worth it to save everyone.
