Actually the bug IS indeed Herbie- in an interview approx 3weeks H&K outright stated the bug is indeed Herbie 🙂
I remember posting about it in another E6 thread. The interview came out around the same time as the 1st photos of Emma’s bug in Portland. The interview is linked in the post I made 1st on it &/or in 1 of the interview threads on these forums. It isn’t herbie. Why would that be a connection? The only interview i heard where they mention herbie, it was a sarcastic comment where they like laughed and said yeah it’s herbie, but they were joking. It is Emma’s bug. I don’t see any reason why it would have to do with herbie. That doesn’t make sense to me.
Though if Whale is going to be Frankenstein then honestly all bets are off. Though they are never going to say herbie on the show.

At the end of the day H&K have said out right the car is Herbie in an interview about THIS EPISODE (months AFTER the whole mix up in the run up to s2), so if you still want to choose to believe the car isn't Herbie– that’s your call, but it doesn’t change what the creators of the show have already stated in black & white.
It’s no different than those of us who don’t want Si-Fi elements brought into a fantasy show- what we think & feel is ‘right’ for the show, isn’t what H&K as the creators think & feel, nothing we feel will change that, as we aren’t the creators.I doubt they will do an episode on Herbie either- I think they just put it out there as a nod to the movie/character – much like the mickey phone 🙂

the clothing does not add up! let’s say that storybrook present is somewhere between 2007 and 2012. This means she should be wearing clothes from the late 90’s early 00’s. The kind of look she is sporting was trending two-three years ago. Hipster glasses? Com’on, no one wore those ten years ago. I hope we are wrong and this is not a flashback from 10 years ago, because if it is, there has been a serious mistake in the wardrobe department.
I dunno, I think the clothes are fine. I asked myself, “Would she blend in in an ep of 90210,” and answered yes.
Are you talking about Beverly Hills 90210, the original flavor? I know that it ended in 2000, but it’s close enough to when Emma would have pregnant, imo. While I didn’t watch it much after Brenda left, I do think that Emma wouldn’t look too out of place on the show even during the 90s, imo. I mean if they would have dressed Andrea Zuckerman in those kind of outfits maybe she would have looked at least like a twenty something instead of a thirty something trying to play a teenager. (Of course, I’ll always love the Zuckerman, but really even as a teenager, it was hard for me to buy that some of the actors were supposed to be high school students. Kids these days don’t know how good they have it with their age appropriate looking actors. Also, those kids should totally get off my lawn. 😆 )
From Wiki,
By the early-1990s, leggings were actually outselling jeans in many parts of the United States.[citation needed] It was very common to see leggings worn with long oversized t-shirts, oversized sweatshirts or oversized sweaters, slouch socks and Keds. Fashion turned against leggings in the late 1990s.
Yes, I know they went out of style in the late 90s when this probably would have happened, (although I’m confused because of the dates in those secret Archie Hopper files are listed as 2009 and 2019), and came back in again in the mid 00s, but Emma has never been fashion forward, so I can fanwank it that these were hand me downs or thrift shop clothes that she thought looked fashionable to her. (Or maybe she was fashion forward and was ahead of the curve before people came back to leggings.) Also, I had a pair of those glasses in high school like Josephine too.
October 24, 2012 at 3:53 am #157900JosephineParticipantReally, leggings went out in the late 90s? I graduated in 1995 and I can’t remember them being popular. I remember them when I was in elementary and middle school in the late 80s and I’ll even give into the early 90s. I’d see sweatpants before leggings. I do remember flares/bell bottoms were trying to come in and only a few kids were wearing them.
However, I do see Emma as not being into fashion and buying her stuff from thrift stores.
*high fives Bee for her taste in eyeglasses* I didn’t think they were hipster glasses at the time, but I do remember having them. I think I ended up trading them out for wire-rimmed glasses. Nowadays, I’m into the rimless and will never go back, even though the cost is outrageous.
Keeper of Rumplestiltskin's and Neal's spears and war paint and crystal ball.
October 24, 2012 at 3:59 am #157903naomiParticipantI also love how different Neal looks…between his frumpy three-piece suit in “Broken” to his super casual tank-and-jacket style in the spoilers photos. 🙂 Reminds me of MR-J in Terriers.
So if I’m getting this straight:
Emma and Mystery Man are together in Portland. (spoiler photos)
Emma gets arrested in Portland. (spoiler photos)
Emma gives birth to Henry in Phoenix, and gives him up.
Some time later, Emma spends two years in Tallahassee.
10 years later, Henry finds Emma in Boston. That’s quite a cross-country trek. I wonder why she was moving around so much? If she was running from something or chasing something. Or maybe just wandering aimlessly after being separated from Neal.
And, apart from the LOST shout-outs, I also wonder what the significance of Tallahassee is in relation to this episode? Maybe Emma was supposed to reunite with Neal there, but he never came. I’ve heard some people say Neal’s apartment is supposed to be in a neighborhood with a history of mafia activity in NYC (please correct me if I got the facts wrong) ~ maybe he got tied up with the wrong sort and decided to stay away from Emma to keep her safe?
I think the theme of this episode is going to focus on Emma’s ability to trust. Emma trusting Neal in the flashback, while meanwhile in FTL, she struggles to trust Hook as they climb the beanstalk/meet the giant. I wonder if she'll be betrayed both times or if they'll write a compare-and-contrast type episode and make Hook he nice guy who doesn't betray her. Oooooh. Drama.
Can’t wait for this episode!

Well I remember wearing them in middle school and freshman year until grunge became popular, but not like Emma did with the dress, but with long sweaters or shirts. (I wasn’t very fashion forward either.)

No, I didn’t think of them as hipster glasses like I do now. I guess I just liked them out of the options that they had back then. I remember I had those Lisa Loeb-type of glasses when “Stay” was popular, but then they got broken, so I went with a different style because the tortoise frame never fit my face anyways. Of course, I didn’t care at the time because those glasses were everywhere, but at least I never got the Rachel haircut which was everywhere when I was in high school too.

He must have it written into his contracts that his character must appear sometime in a sleeveless t-shirt. Not that I’m complaining, but it’s funny that it’s happened on True Blood, The Walking Dead, Terriers and now Once Upon a Time.
Hopefully, Lil’Red doesn’t mind me mentioning this, but she was talking about how MR-J’s hair even looks floofier in episode 6 like the two younger Bae’s hairstyle and the color palette is spot on to the younger Baes.
Just for fun,
October 24, 2012 at 5:08 am #157914naomiParticipantWow.
I knew it was “dark brown” but you’re right. That hair colour and floof curl is darn accurate. 😆 Seriously, if Neal doesn’t turn out to be Bae, then I’ll assume that the casting director has some sinister, personal vendetta against primetime TV audiences. If MR-J isn’t Bae, how much closer can they get to finding a Bae look-alike? I’m dying to see what or who they have up their sleeves.
Also, I hate to add fuel to the near-madness that is this fandom – but did anyone do an eye colour check?
October 24, 2012 at 6:56 am #157916hjbauParticipantBut they were making a joke when they said it was herbie. It was a joke. A joke is not a statement of fact. They also said Henry’s father was chucky, that creepy doll with a knife that likes to kill people.
October 24, 2012 at 7:05 am #157917kateParticipantI have to agree Emma’s styling is off. If this show is taking place in the present and this flashback takes place around 2000, I can’t see a teen sporting hipster glasses and that outfit. I’m about the same age as Emma, and we didn’t dress like that… sweatpants and flares yes, leggings no.
