What did you think of the Mal and Regina first meeting? Did it play out like you thought? What went down between Mal and Stefan?
(and when was this all supposed to take place?)

They didn’t give me any indication of who Mal or her history with Stefan. It felt like we were entering in the middle of the story with no one bothering to explain anything to us. While OUAT often uses in media res, they also at least try to clue you in to what happened. before. Everything was emotionally disconnected because I couldn’t understand any of the emotions since there was no story.
And wow. Stefan was horribly under used. I got no sense of who he is either. Just some king who happens to ride upon Mal and Regina and just the right moment.

We’ve waited a long time to see their version of the Sleeping Beauty story, and that’s all we get? Seriously?

(On the flipside, it justifies Zelena’s freak out that Rumple would choose Regina over her since Zelena was clearly the better student).
I liked Mal’s outfit and hair in flashback when she’s getting high. I wish she’d rediscovered her purpose on her own though. I dislike it when a character’s “greatness” as we know them is only because they met a certain character in their life. It approaches Mary Sue territory. Anna was the Mary Sue of 4A, I hope they don’t make Regina one in 4B.
All magic comes with a price!

This bothers me so much. I have no problem with drugs on TV but an 8pm Disney show that keeps getting the label Family Show? Eek

Have to agree about the queer baiting but so what… The intensity in Mal was wonderful. And I even liked her down-on-luck look. But it is so weird for me to understand that heavy drinking would be something QoD would do for fun, though it was hinted in Mal’s semi-drunken flashback.
So I am eagerly expecting more of Mal and Regina’s intense moments ; )March 16, 2015 at 7:40 pm #298839SlurpeezParticipantThis bothers me so much. I have no problem with drugs on TV but an 8pm Disney show that keeps getting the label Family Show? Eek
That is exactly what I thought. “Toadstools” is what stoned Mal called the diluted sleeping spell. While it might go over a 5-year-old’s head, an intelligent 12-year-old might catch on. This show really isn’t kid-friendly, at all. Adultery, excessive binge drinking and now drugs on a show that supposedly the entire family can watch together? I mean, no. Just no.

March 16, 2015 at 9:03 pm #298851TheWatcherParticipantIt felt like they were setting up the history between Stefan, Mal, and Briar. Like we would eventually see that story unfold in a later episode. Idk if we ever will but that’s what it felt like to me.
I loved Mal’s dress and hair. It bothered me more that she put on the exact same horns and dress that she has been wearing all season when she finally got her mind right. Like really guys? You mean to tell me this is the only “going out” dress Maleficent has? -___- maybe I am just tired of that dress now, but I think they need to change it up. Regina always had a different look, I want Mal to have just as awesome a wardrobe. Not the same thing.
The whole toadstool drug thing… I actually found it pretty humorous. I know a lot of you may not like it but it seems like something they would do on Shrek. Something the kids wont really “get” but the older people would. I don’t think Once gets labeled as a “kids show”. I mean Regina called Urusla a B-word a few episodes ago. But that’s besides the point.
Anyway, I liked the flashbacks except for the bad cgi dragon (I liked the one that appeared in S1 better). The history between Regina/Mal was…actually kind of a let down. It was good, just not what I was expecting."I could have the giant duck as my steed!" --Daniel Radcliffe

Kids Show = / = Family show
