For the record, this episode was rated TVPG-V, which I’m guessing is what all or most episodes are rated.
(and in case no one knows what that means…)
It means parental guidance strongly suggested, the V is for moderate violence. There is no letter strictly for drugs, though. Had it been shown for longer, it probably would have merited a high TV rating
However, back to my point.
Kids Show = / = Family Show
A kids show is something that only kids “watch” (making allowances for the fact that some adults enjoy “kids” programing). Your animated stuff. Your Nick cartoons. Your Arthur or the Magic School bus.
A family show is a show that something the whole family can sit and enjoy–from middle kids (like, say….8 and 9) and up as well as adults. The fact is, in this day and age, almost everyone would get that as a drug reference. A very clear one. Especially the whole “to take the edge off” which is something drug addicts ACTUALLY say and an excuse they use. The fact that they had the cool! villains (like Regina who is becoming an icon to many) out gallivanting around with tons of alcohol, consequence free (except a small headache), DRIVING is a poor message.

That wasn’t even the most risque drug reference to occur in the OUAT franchise. In an episode of Wonderland, this exchange happened:
Will: Please mate, can I get a sip of that water?
Man: You ok? You don’t look too good.
Will: You ever been stoned? Feels like death when you come out of it.
Man: Maybe you’ve been messing with the wrong stuff.
Will: No, I mean stoned as in turned to stone. Not saying I necessarily condone this, but we could spend all time discussing how politically correct television should or shouldn’t be.

Oh no hey. I agree. I mean this is a show that was founded on patricide. But I don’t believe in looking past it for the sake of “well every show does it!”
I think a lot of it is tongue in cheek, but the fact that is being held up as COOL by the swanky fun villains, one of whom is probably the most popular character in the show….oof. I get a bit soap boxy.

We saw this episode that Mal poisons Aurora, and she actually stays in her sleep until Emma/Snow arrive in the EF in season 2. So, as far as we know, Maleficent SUCCEEDED in her plans. She took away the thing Stefan loved most. So when Regina visitied her in S1 to get the curse, Mal was still coasting on her win. So tell me what exactly does Maleficent need with the gauntlet? Who is her enemy? Couldn’t have been Stefan. She had already did what she had to do with him. Couldn’t have been Regina because at that point, Regina hadn’t taken the curse (the point where the QoD’s tried to steal the gauntlet from Rump. Belle was still his maid so regina hadn’t yet taken it). Maybe it was Snowing, but that doesn’t fit timeline wise either.

I think she’s like Regina; she got her revenge but it wasn’t all it was cracked up to be
