Once Upon a Time | I just got off the horn with Jane Espenson, who wrote this Sunday’s episode, “The Return,” and used the opportunity to pick her brain about those photos from the Mad Hatter episode showing August talking to Jefferson – even though no such scenes aired. She shrugged and explained, “Sometimes episodes come in long,” and maybe that is why the intriguing encounter was left on the cutting room floor. As for Sebastian Stan reprising his role later this season, I’ve got many of you asking if that’ll lead to any new Emma/Jefferson moments. In response, Espenson only teased that Jefferson “is a character who has tremendous romantic potential.” Hey, I tried!
Here’s the crackpot theory this brought to my mind — could Jefferson be Henry’s father? No, not possible, right? He was stuck in that house for 28 years. So who could he have romantic potential with? Emma? I think a lot of people are hoping for Emma and August.

I definitely see potential for Emma and August to be a great romantic pairing. But Emma had some mad (pardon the pun) chemistry with Jefferson. Dunno who else they could pair him up with really, except maybe Regina. People have speculated they were perhaps a couple at some point in FTL history.
Oh, I didn’t say I was hoping for Emma and August. I agree with Phee: there was some intensely “mad” chemistry between Jefferson and Emma… just hadn’t thought about the possibility of the two.

I wouldn’t mind Jefferson and Emma. Though the whole he kidnapped her and her mother is an issue with regards to them finding happiness together. And the whole he was waving a gun in her face and drugged her and tied her up. He isn’t very stable right now either. Though that may work out better once he knows Emma is going to help him and Emma believes him. It is just that right now her reaction to him will probably be alarm and pulling her gun on him, but maybe they could get to romance at some point.
It would be crazy if he was related to the queen or because of his history with the queen for him and Emma to be together. I could see some back story going on there where we learn about the character and then sort of wonder about him in the real world. He would have to be on the show more regularly though and not die by the end of the season.
