It bothers me a bit that Emma keeps bumping into people who are magical, tell her about magic, tell her things that are otherworldly and still she didn’t believe a lick of what Henry told her back in S1

I tweeted out the same exact thing when I was watching it! After being left off the side of the road, meeting a crazy woman who said she had magic, and meeting a random usher who appeared magical, she still gets surprised by the most ridiculous things. I swear, sometimes it should be #DumbSwan!

I finally thought of an explanation for something that has been bugging me since last spring. We were told that Merlin bound the darkness to a person all those centuries ago. And then we were told that Merlin is the only one who can destroy the darkness.

But, if he can destroy it, why didn’t he just do that in the first place, long ago?!? That bugged me.

But now, Arthur mentions that Merlin has prophesied Emma’s arrival:

Emma: Merlin. Where is he? We were told that he’s been missing.

King Arthur: For years, yes. But not for much longer because according to his prophecy, you’re destined to reunite him with us. Now, then, if you’ll all follow me…

    (from transcript)

So, theory: Maybe Merlin was not powerful enough to defeat the darkness alone. But he knew that in the future, someone more powerful would be born (Emma), and that only together could they defeat the darkness! 😯 So he bound it to a person to limit it until then, and then waited for Emma to come along and help defeat it! 😀
