Merlin is over 1000 years old, fleeing from some sort of mistreatment and apparently made Camelot spring up from his hands!
Now that we have almost all of Merlin’s story, what do you think of him? Why did he have an Apprentice? Where did he come from? Why did the Gods choose him? Should he have taken Nimue to Prometheus’s fire?

He had an apprentice just in case something ever happened to him, he’d have someone take his place. I take it the Apprentice was Merlin’s adopted son.
For some odd reason…I get the feeling Merlin was someone enslaved thus him looking like he was on the run in the beginning of the episode. Is there a possibility that at the start of he episode, Merlin was in our world A.C. Era, hence how he found the Holy Grail and just poofed himself to Camelot?
A part of me is holding onto faith that Nimue and Merlin will be reunited at some point…hopefully alive and they just go back to Camelot to live happily ever after, but that is just a dream fighting against the harsh reality that Merlin is going to end up dead with Nimue close behind him.

1) who was Merlin running from?
2) Where was he born? What was his early life like/his family like?
3) what did he do for those first 800 years?
4) Why did he chose that boy as an apprentice?
5) did he give the apprentice long life?
6) did he create any other realms?
7) did he really never give into the darkness?

I really hope not…just because it seems odd to have a powerful Dark One roaming around and not have an opposite counter as well…
And also weird to have imaginary-Nimue around without Merlin, especially after Merlin said he could see her along with Emma.

His name is absent from the sword in present day SB, so either he’s dead or Tree’d again. My money is on dead.

Nimue still loves Merlin the most.
Side note: We need a Lancelot hearing from Merlin in childhood story. Maybe Nimue was pregnant and is Lancelot’s mother. Maybe Nimue becomes a Nyx or Lady of the Lake like character. Lancelot is Lancelot du Lac.
And where was Lance this episode anyway? And why didn’t anyone mention Belle?

I think that’s a very solid guess.
