When, on when are we going to get to see Ariel? I know it was mentioned a long while ago that we’d see her in season 2, but with the current storylines, I have no idea how they’d fit her in! Plus we haven’t seen a casting (yet) for a mermaid-ish character, or even a redhead (if they stick with that).
Any theories on when and how they’d introduce a mermaid to Storybrooke?
Gotta say, I’m also on board with the theory that Hook is Ariel’s “Eric.” I think that’d be a great twist, and I love pirates and mermaids together. 😉

I’m thinking that the character Tamara wich has been announced to apear sometime after this winter hiatus, she will be a mermaid.

from wiki about the name Tamara : In England, Tamara is the goddess of rivers and streams. The River Tamar which forms the border between Devon and Cornwall derives its name from this spirit.

But ofcourse as long as they are in Storybrook she wont be an acctual mermaid, but a regular person with legs 🙂 but possibly with some association with water, work wise or something. Like working at a local tavern serving drinks or at a fish and chips restaurant 🙂

I’m really eager to see what they do with The Little Mermaid. Have always loved mermaids and went through a phase back in the day where I desperately wanted to be Ariel. 😆 Pretty sure they’ll keep her as a redhead, it’d be scandalous if they made her a blonde. 😮

It’d be great if there was an aquarium in Storybrooke… a great field trip for Henry. Like Belle with her Library, Ariel could work at an aquarium, or even something as simple as a lifeguard at the community pool.
I wondered about Tamara too, Good research! Maybe this is her!

I’m not sure how they would tie it in with Storybrooke but we’ve already had some hints connecting Neal Cassidy to Coney Island and there is a big connection between Coney Island and mermaids. Every year they have a mermaid parade. Neal who possibly is Baelfire/Peter Pan, caught the N line on the Subway, which goes all the way to Coney Island.

The possible Coney Island connections I’ve seen so far…

    1. Song Charley’s Girl that is playing when Neal is walking through New York and taking the Subway is from the album, My Coney Island Baby.

    2. Neal takes the N line subway that ends at Coney Island. The MTA Art for Transit display that is at the Coney Island underground station is called, “My Coney Island Baby” and has a gigantic hot dog that is almost identical to the one Ruby is holding in the Season 2 promo picture. It also has an art work that looks amazingly like young Snow on her horse and it has a huge green ogarish monster with one red hand. I wondered why they would have Ruby, the Child of the Moon, hold the hot dog in the promo…but they I noticed that the Coney Island Park is named Luna Park…Luna means moon.

Also Coney Island fits in great with your name Piratesmermaid…they have mermaids…they used to have an amusement park called Peter Pan’s Playground…and they used to have a big pirate ship ride.

I agree Phee! Ariel has to be a red head! Wish they’d introduce Sebastian as well. Loved that rock lobster! 😆

Not sure but I do seem to recollect them mentioning something about seeing her this year. But then they said the same for Oz but have since retracted their words.

While the single Charley’s Girl came from Lou Reed’s My Coney Island Baby LP, the song was used in reference to Neal turning Emma in. In the song, Lou and his band mates were turned in (for drugs most likely) but a fellow band mate’s girlfriend. Thus the choice of song for Neal.

As for the hot dogs at the family reunion picnic picture, it was meant to represent the 3 little pigs. Get it? Ruby, the big bad wolf eating the 3 little pigs. Again, just a bit of humour that they threw in.

Ariel will be seen in flashbacks to Fairy Tale Land/Enchanted Forest and most likely again in Storybrooke. Maybe that’s the beloved fairy tale character that Reggie is accused of killing and turning into a fish. Will be interesting to see.

Anyway, that my take on things.

I definitely am looking forward to seeing Ariel. With the squid ink (Ursala was drawn with only six tentacles which technically makes her a squid) I feel like we got even more foreshadowing that it will be coming.

My theory is that Ariel will have been in Neverland at some point, as we know that there are mermaids there. I also think Ariel will have a background with Hook. In Season 3 episode 1 of the Little Mermaid Series Ariel has to rescue Sebastian from a gang of pirates.

(and this one I don’t want to say because I’d also like it if Hook became Ariel’s Eric) But In Ariel’s Beginning we learn that Ariel’s mother was killed when pirates came to the reef and she got crushed between the rocks and the boat.

I’m really looking forward to seeing a little mermaid, and hope that it is sooner rather than later

Oh interesting, I’ve never seen that, so just looked it up…

King Triton and his wife, Queen Athena, rule over the underwater kingdom of Atlantica, which is filled with music and laughter. They have seven young daughters, the youngest of whom is Ariel. The merfolk are shown relaxing in a lagoon above water, and Triton gives Athena a music box. Suddenly, a pirate ship approaches. Everyone escapes except Athena, who is crushed by the ship when she tries to save the music box.

The use of the term “lagoon” makes me think even more that Ariel will be a mermaid in Neverland’s Mermaid Lagoon. They could potentially still have Hook be Ariel’s Eric, even if it’s his ship that inadvertently crushes her mother. It wouldn’t be like Hook had killed her intentionally, and Ariel may be able to see past that, while Triton wouldn’t, which would amp up the animosity between them, which would end up driving her to go to Ursula for help. Perhaps?

I definitely like this theory, plus i think in the official podcast they said they were wanting to explore if a person can find true love again?

As well I think Rumple might take on the role of Ursula, as they both have a fondness for making deals. (Ursula made deals that often led to merfolk being turned into those creepy things that gave me nightmares). Plus the name of Ursula’s main song, “Poor Unfortunate Souls”, is quite similar to the episode entitled “Desperate Souls”
