Is the footage of Hook that we’ve seen actual footage that will be used on the show or just promo footage for the character?
I think that was just promo footage, but I do think he is connected to Rumple somehow.
We saw him breaking into Mr Gold’s shop, could that suggest that Rumple is going to be his enemy? Crazy theory just popped into my head but what if (if Rumple is Hook’s enemy) Hook tries to steal Belle off of Rumple. Belle did say she wanted to see the world in Skin Deep, and as a pirate captain, Hook would have travelled so he could tell her about his travels with the “meticulous style and old-school manners of a proper gentleman”. “Hook relishes every challenge and never backs down from a fight, whether the reward is power, riches, or women” Belle would be a challenge seeing as she is Rumple’s true love. “beneath that veneer lies a vindictive enemy who will not rest until all his enemies have been defeated… and humiliated.” What would be more humiliating for Rumple than Belle leaving him for a younger man? What if the theories of Rumple’s first wife running off with Hook are true and now Hook is trying to take Belle away from Rumple? What if Bae is Hook’s biological son?
So many theories from one tiny bit of casting info.
I agree there’s just so much to theorize from one tiny bit of casting. 😀
First, I thought he looked younger than what I thought they were going for Captain Hook too. Then, I just looked at his age on IMDb, and he’s way younger than I expected Captain Hook to be. I did read a theory just now though that perhaps he was once a lost boy too, and that’s why he’s still pretty young looking.
Second, I was thinking almost the exact same things about Captain Hook. I was thinking that maybe the flashback will be to when Captain Hook met up with Milha, Rumple’s ex, and then something happened between them. I think she eventually died though and won’t be seen in present day Storybrooke. However, Beaman will turn out to be Captain Hook’s Storybrooke identity, and yes, he’ll want to get back at Rumple. I definitely see him going after Belle, and maybe even joining up with Regina to get back at Rumple since right now she really doesn’t have any allies since it will probably be very difficult for Giancarlo Esposito to come back regularly to the show. (I read the teaming up Regina theory at the same place I read the theory about Hook being a former Lost Boy.)
Of course, another one of his enemies will be Peter Pan, whoever that turns out to be. I want to say Dr. Whale, but if Bae is Hook’s son, that just adds another layer of drama there. (Ahhhhh!!!! September 30th is just too far away.) I think that Bae will turn out to be Rumple’s though just because if Milha is Bae’s mom, it sounded like she was married and had a baby with Rumple, but then got bored with her life, and then went after something more.
It’s certainly possible though that maybe Hook was her one true love, or at least she thought he was, or maybe some other guy that’s not Rumple. She gets together with this guy, gets pregnant, but Hook or the other guy doesn’t want anything to do with her after that. So she ends up married to Rumple who is okay not being the biological father. Things are okay for a short while, but then she begins to hate her life and looks for excitement in the local taverns where she meets up with Hook either again or for the first time.

meticulous style and old-school manners of a proper gentleman”. “Hook relishes every challenge and never backs down from a fight, whether the reward is power, riches, or women
A guy with that description might be shown going for every attractive woman he sees. Belle would probably be at the top of the list if we go on the assumption that Rumple is his enemy. But then there’s also Emma because she’s technically a princess, and sweet, flirty Red. With the outfits that girl wears she’d be a walking magnet for a guy like Hook! 😮 I even read posts from some people on tumblr who already ship Hook with Regina 😆
beneath that veneer lies a vindictive enemy who will not rest until all his enemies have been defeated… and humiliated
Besides Rumple, he could also be after Regina because she cast the curse. Come to think of it, he actually sounds like a male version of Regina.
I was thinking that maybe the flashback will be to when Captain Hook met up with Milha, Rumple’s ex, and then something happened between them.
I really don’t think Milha is Rumple’s ex-wife. If they were going to introduce us to her I think they would’ve done so back in Desperate Souls. I think she’s just a character who’s going to be used to introduce us to Hook back in FTL.

I thought it’d be a younger Hook – before he became the Captain Hook of Peter Pan fame. Even though the actor who plays Hook appears young, I think the character will actually be as old as Rumpel, but hasn’t aged because time stands still in Neverland. Perhaps he only showed up in SB because when Rumpel brought magic to SB, he created portals to other realms (since magic is unpredictable, it could happen). I also have a feeling Beaman is his other alias and that he’s affiliated with Mr. Gold (whose shop sign reads Pawnbroker and Antiques Dealer). We know from the casting call that Beaman is a thief of antiques. Perhaps he is Rumpel’s dealer/smuggler.
I was thinking that maybe the flashback will be to when Captain Hook met up with Milha, Rumple’s ex, and then something happened between them.
I agree with this thought, since I posed the theory back when the casting call for Milha and Beaman was first announced.
I really don’t think Milha is Rumple’s ex-wife. If they were going to introduce us to her I think they would’ve done so back in Desperate Souls. I think she’s just a character who’s going to be used to introduce us to Hook back in FTL.
I don’t think there was any compelling need to introduce us to Mrs. Rumpel in “Desperate Souls” since that was not the focus of the storyline. If anything, not introducing her early on gives Kitsis and Horowitz more room to play with and the writers more intrigue to work with when telling the stories. It keeps us guessing and asking for more, which is one reason we all love OUAT.
I think that Bae will turn out to be Rumple’s though just because if Milha is Bae’s mom, it sounded like she was married and had a baby with Rumple, but then got bored with her life, and then went after something more.
It’s possible the affair was ongoing while Rumpel was in the first ogre’s war, and when he deserted and returned, she tried to make out that it was Rumpel’s son (conceived when he was home on a leave of absence). When she discovered Rumpel was a deserter, she really could have been disgusted by having a coward for a husband, waited to give birth, and then up and took off after “adventure” with Captain Hook.
We saw him breaking into Mr Gold’s shop, could that suggest that Rumple is going to be his enemy? Crazy theory just popped into my head but what if (if Rumple is Hook’s enemy) Hook tries to steal Belle off of Rumple.
I do think there is a rivalry between Rumpel and Hook, but I don’t think it’s over Belle. I think it goes all the way back to Rumpel’s ex-wife, who perhaps left him in the name of adventure for Captain Hook. I don’t think Rumpel has to worry about Belle falling for a crazy pirate. Belle is blinded by love for Rumpel and hasn’t stopped loving him, despite what he did to her.

August 3, 2012 at 9:09 pm #152835JosephineParticipantGosh, this theorizing is starting to sound exactly like the folk song “House Carpenter”. Boy, that song is depressing. It’s a story about a woman abandoning her baby and husband to go off with her true love. It ends tragically. i’m on a tablet and can’t get YouTube so here is a link to the lyrics.

http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/08/03/michael-raymond-james-once-upon/Please, please don’t be Baelfire…Beaman? Fine, I could easily see him playing that kind of character. But, I really don’t think he looks like Dylan. Thoughts anyone?

Yes, I don’t mean to be shallow, but what Josephine posted a page back, please for Jack/Bae.
They really are just toying with us now. I have a suspicion Jack will be brunette and gorgeous, too.
I mean it’s not like he’s ugly, but he doesn’t look anything like Dylan Schmid or Robert Carlyle at all. While his eyes and hair match, I guess, the rest just doesn’t imo. However, if he is Bae, I will be okay with him as long as his acting is on par with Robert Carlyle’s, then I won’t care what he looks like.
Although I have to add, if he does turn out to be Jack/Bae, right now I feel sort of cheated because Julian Morris and Colin O’Donoghue look more like I would picture Bae to look like as an adult. Of course, I’m not familiar with Michael Raymond-James’s talent, so maybe I’ll see the “swagger like Jagger” that Jack is suppose to have, if he is in fact Jack/Bae.
ETA: I just looked up some of his work on YouTube, and I’m smitten with him. (So of course, he’s not going to be Bae now that I wouldn’t mind him being Bae.) He’s not what I pictured Bae to look like at all, but I think he definitely has swagger. While older than I imagined, I think that can definitely work for the character. I think he can match up well against Robert Carlyle in scenes that they’re in together if he’s Bae too which is a big plus.

That was really depressing. 😥
I wonder if they’ll go that route with Milha then because if she’s just a bored housewife that leaves and never comes back to her family, I don’t think I would like her very much. However, if she’s a bored housewife that realizes that she shouldn’t have left her baby, I would certainly feel more sympathy towards her, at least I think so if it was like in the song, and I think more fans would too. Plus, I think it adds another layer to the one true romantic love theme throughout the show in that Captain Hook may have been Milha’s one true romantic love, but since she was already married and had a child, then maybe going after one’s true love isn’t such a wonderful idea at that point anymore.
I expect we’ll see also see this idea with Lancelot’s character, so maybe season 2 will be the cautionary side of romantic true love. I also read that Prince Phillip is torn between Aurora and someone else, but I’m not sure how true that spoiler is. So there would be another possible example. Then, of course, if Henry’s dad does come back on the scene as Jack/Bae, I would expect that’s not going to go too well this season between Emma and him.
August 4, 2012 at 4:36 am #152841midnight drearyParticipantI have a feeling he’ll be attached to Captain Hook’s story. I find it mighty convenient that his casting was announced the same day Captain Hook’s casting was announced. Peter Pan or Beanman probably. 😉
August 4, 2012 at 4:55 am #152842lilredParticipantYou bring up a good point AntBee, I’m probably just being shallow not wanting him to be Bae. In everything I’ve seen him in, he is a compelling actor that constantly surprises me: plus he could hold his own against Robert. Still feels too cut and dry, like once again their leading us off. Every time they describe someone as ‘dark’ or ‘mysterious’ now, I just want to call their bluff.
If he does tie into Captain Hook’s story, I think he could make an interesting Pirate! Maybe a darker Mr. Smee? Or, again, he could be Beaman.
August 4, 2012 at 5:23 am #152843JosephineParticipantI actually think he looks a bit like Dylan. I did google him because I’m unfamiliar with his work and he’s more attractive in other pics, but I could imagine him as Bae and/or Henry’s father.
I really think some reporter should get Jen really drunk during an interview, take her to dinner, and then ask her who Henry’s father is. She admitted at ComicCon that she’s known from the beginning. And I really need to know the answer for my sanity. Maybe they could take David, too, to get some answers on who Dr. Whale actually is. 😉
AntBee, I told you that song was depressing. It’s even more haunting when sung. It will be interesting to find out who this Mihla actually is. Poor Bae had it even worse than Emma, imo, so I wonder how screwed up he’ll actually be.

I have absolutely no problem with this casting; it really shouldn’t just be about looks but about talent. As long as he’s a good actor, I’m happy with whomever he plays.

Yeah, I also have a feeling this casting could be a red-herring for us fans. By calling him a “mysterious new character” everyone is bound to jump to the conclusion that this guy is surely Baefire.
I actually think he looks a bit like Dylan. I did google him because I’m unfamiliar with his work and he’s more attractive in other pics, but I could imagine him as Bae and/or Henry’s father.
Yep. exactly. I could see Michael as Baelfire, but it’s not for sure.
Anyway, we still have no idea if Baelfire is an adult, since for all we know, he’ll turn out to be Peter Pan. Dylan Schmid could reprise his role in S2. How interesting would the dynamic be if Baelfire turns out to be Peter Pan and he discovers his biological father is no other than his arch nemesis, Hook! 💡

😆 Hahaha! It’d have to be a really attractive reporter to catch Jennifer’s eye. After all, she’s dating her co-star, Sebastian Stan, so we know how she likes her men. 😀
